Chance me! andover/exeter???

Getting into ANDOVER/EXETER?
So ive wanted to go to boarding school since 6th grade but my parents wouldn't allow me. i was admitted to one of the best private schools in my state where i currently attend.I recently sent out asking for information from all the boarding schools in the east coast, and was particularly stunned by both exeter and andover. When i was looking at the brochures, i could picture my self there. My parents were also amazed by the amazing record, and alumnus, and things the schools had to offer. Anyways do i have a chance of getting in if im applying to junior year?

Do i have a chance??

You sound like a good candidate so far. Have you taken the SSATs yet?

thats good.
but whats important is your interviews and essays.
for SSATs, just get at least an 85%<. Your EC’s boost up your chances a lot. And you said you get 90-99, thats perfecc.
Andover and Exeter look for a lot of EC’s, community service, and how you might help in their community.

For interviews, if you haven’t taken them, be sure to “drag” the interviewers in. Make them interested in your life and why you should apply there. If your interviews take like 5 minutes or 10 minutes, that means either the interviewer isn’t interested in you, or you’re already forgotten on the list. Usually, the people who spend their interviews like an hour or two hours, the interviews are interested in them applying, and they will mostly get accepted

For the essays, write creatively, in your own handwriting, and able to flatter the Offce of Admission people.

If you do that, you probably already got accepted.

Ok thanks! im thinking of applying to exeter and andover. Exeter only needs psat scores for 11th grade so if i do well on them i think i will just send those instead of taking the ssat but if i dont ill take the ssat what score would be good for someone applying junior year? how many people do you think will apply??

bump…

Haha, one- to two-hour interviews? Get real. At most they give you a 45 minute slot. These people have a schedule to adhere to. Don’t waste their time telling them your life story. And don’t flatter the admissions people in your essays. You shouldn’t even have to mention them in your essays to begin with…

Anyway… I’m a new Upper (11th grader) at Andover. What I can tell you about the other new Uppers here (there are 22 of us in total) is that they are all absolutely exceptional in at least one area - but most of them are very good in several. Applying as a new Upper is an entirely different game from applying to lower grades. There are 25 places and upwards of 300 applicants; you do the math. What that means for you is that you need to make yourself stand out. Interview well, be humble yet assertive, score high on the PSAT/SSAT, and show real interest. Interest means more than you might think.

On the flipside, you might consider applying as a repeat Lower (10th grader). There’s absolutely no shame in that. None whatsoever. In fact, I kind of wish I had done that…

You sound like a great candidate :)
