I plan on continuing classes at my local community college throughout the school year to hopefully bolster my academics. Currently, my unofficial transcript at the local community college has my GPA at 4.0 but I have only completed 1 class so far. Sorry for the long post but GWU is my dream school and after tours and speaking to my admissions officer I wanted to get some other opinions on my chance of acceptance.

I think your GPA and SAT score look good, and your EC’s are excellent. Your AP/Honors classes aren’t as extensive as some others but I don’t think that’d be an issue. In my opinion, you have an excellent chance at acceptance.

Good luck, and keep us posted!

Are you sure you are not applying or looking to get in to any IVYs?

@tamtiger thank you but I don’t have any SAT Subject Tests so from what I’ve been told though I might seem competitive for most colleges. I am actually on the lower spectrum to ineligible for ivy league universities, I want to study IR and hopefully join the FSO so GWU seems like the closest fit in the area given my circumstances.

@BGMuleri
IVYs don’t necessarily look at ONLY SAT scores. Just glancing through your post, you may have a compelling story to tell in your essay. And who knows where you will end up. If you do not apply you will never get in, that is for sure.

@tamtiger I focused my essay around leaving a legacy in all the places that I’ve traveled to. I have a meeting with Dartmouth admissions at my school this Friday and I’ll ask them to chance me too. However, If I apply ED to GWU it won’t even matter if I get into ivy league as I’d be obligated to attend. Do you think I should apply to GWU and UMD regular and try applying to Ivy/Georgetown also ?

I would definitely recommend applying to Georgetown as well (if you’re open to other options), so if that means applying regular decision- go for it. Their School of Foreign Service is supposed to be top-notch, and you’d still get the great D.C. experience. Where applying ED can also hurt you is when you need a certain amount of financial aid. You might get in to GW but receive better aid elsewhere.

Either way, GW and Georgetown will both serve you very well for aspirations as an FSO.

@BGMuleri

If you are 100% sure you want FS/international relations the top schools are [in the order] :

  1. Harvard,2. Princeton, 3.Stanford, 4.George Town, 5.Columbia, 6.Yale,7. thennnnnnnnn comes GW and 8.then American Uni,, 9. U Michigan, 10. UC Berkley, and then 11. Dartmouth.

As NHuffer said it is important to find the best fit for who you are and who offers the best financial aid. Applying ED you can back out if you get a better financial aid at a different school than your ED school.

You are still very young, apply to the college that speaks to you.

Good luck.

@tamtiger @NHuffer Do you think there is a likely chance that I can get into any of those schools without any SAT Subject tests ? It’s quite difficult to study and plan a date to take a subject test during the school year.

I’m not versed on admission profiles on other schools (heck, I barely know enough about GW, lol) but I think that the only thing you’ve got to lose is the admission fee :slight_smile: GO FOR IT! If you’re not sure about that subject tests, I’m sure someone for the school’s admissions department could give you an answer.

@NHuffer Thanks for that encouragement man, got my acceptance to Dartmouth Class of 2021 this afternoon. Wouldn’t have even applied if it wasn’t for you and @tamtiger . Thank you both.

@BGMuleri
Nice. Congratulations. Best wishes. =D>

so did you apply without SAT subjects? or ACT?

Yes @MomEof3 I applied only with my SAT 1 Score.

that’s shocking @BGMuleri ! It’s sure nice to know that all the boxes don’t necessarily have to be hatched! Well done - did you accept Dartmouth or are you waiting for other responses?

@MomEof3 I accepted Dartmouth’s offer.
