Chance me at a NYU Stern or U of M Ross?

ACT: haven’t taken yet but based on SAT score probably a 33+

Junior year- AP World Lit + all honors except for Spanish and AP psych

What other ECs could I participate in that look good for applying to Stern/Ross? Are there any ECs I’m doing right now that aren’t worth my time? Any programs/internships that I should look into this summer to bolster my chances?

Your scores are certainly high enough for both colleges. Your EC’s are slightly weak in that they don’t show depth, but they show concentrated focus. Just do what you like, if you can show the admissions committee that you understand your ECs and the reasons for doing them, I’d place you at >75% of admission.

@Ahmad12345 Thank you for your concise and encouraging reply! I’ll be sure to consider the breadth>depth aspect of my ECs and will hone in on making more meaningful achievements in a couple individual categories this year.

Where is your home state? Ross has an admission rate in teens. No one has >75% chance there even from in state. Your GPA is right below admission average at UMich whilw your SAT is just shy of the 75th percentile. For LSA, it would be a match from in state and a low reach to reach from OOS depending on your school profile explaining your GPA. Ross pre-admit is a reach pretty much for everybody.

Also, if you’re a junior who’s interested in Math/Science. You may want to look into RSI, it’s one of the few EC’s that actually looks amazing on a college app.

@billcsho I’m instate. To correct my GPA, it’s actually 3.87 since I pulled up a B+ to an A today, but I still see where you’re coming from with the generally low chances. Thank you for taking the time to reply informatively and honestly!

@Ahmad12345 I’ve heard about RSI actually! It’s among my top choices for summer programs this year. I’m also looking into high school finance/accounting internships in metro Detroit or New York with companies like J.P. Morgan and Co., etc.

@anniiefu Do recalculate your usGPA in UM’s way, i.e. no subgrades. That B+ to A change may even has a larger impact than you thought. It may up your chance to low match at UMich as you are not far off from that even now.

@billcsho My school actually shares its grading system with U of M since we have such a strong partnership with them (31% acceptance rate), so that should be around my UM GPA. Since you’re well versed with the nuances of the U of M admissions criteria, would you happen to know my chances for NYU Stern?

The GPA recalculation has little to do with your school. It is the way that UMich recalculae for all applicants I am only familiar with schools in the mid west and some others that I have studied their statistics.

@billcsho Oh my mistake, I misunderstood what was meant by the GPA recalculation. I’ll review the grading system and reconsider the choice between LSA and Ross. Thank you for your help, I appreciate it!

It is extremely difficult to get a pre-admit to Ross, much more likely for you (probably close to 90% in-state with excellent GPA /SAT Washtenaw county resident) to be admitted to LSA. Definitely apply to Ross and LSA Honors. You can then transfer in Sophomore year (40% chance) to Ross if you are not pre-admitted.

Stern is very expensive, but admission chances should be similar/higher

@TooOld4School I talked with my counselor and that sounds like a good game plan, thank you!
