Chance Me at Bates ED2

Hey everyone. I’m planning on applying to Bates for ED2 and was wondering what my chances are. I’d love hearing any opinions and advice!

Varsity lacrosse since freshman year (I’m not a recruited athlete)

Appointed student representative for my high school at district meetings - I inform the school board of various grievances and successes for the high school
Internship at law firm

I’m planning on majoring in Economics and minoring in History

I also participated in Prologue to Bates (their virtual fly-in program) and have shown A LOT of demonstrated interest.

Again, I’d love to hear anyone’s opinion and thanks in advance!

I think you sound like an excellent candidate that Bates would be lucky to have. Your GPA and expressing interest will probably help you. I’m impressed with your awards and ECs. It’s hard to say for sure, but from what you’ve said here, I would maybe start looking at the bookstore website and think about what sweatshirt you’d like to get.

If you would like any information about Bates while you wait, let me know and I will message you, as you don’t have enough posts yet to message me. My daughter graduated this year and had a fantastic experience.

Thank you so much! How did your daughter like Lewiston? I’d love to hear about her experience and outcome after Bates and any information about the school!

Lindagaf, do you think that the fact that the student is not apply ED will make Bates wonder about the level of committment?

No, because 1.) COVID means everything is different, and 2.) ED2 is a very strong sign of commitment. I mean, why disadvantage a student for choosing ED2 when it’s a strong sign of interest? There are a number of reasons why a student might have to choose ED2.

Bates admissions has told me that ED2 is reviewed the same way as ED1… I’m applying ED2 because a) my family needed more time to analyze our financial situation and b) I simply needed more time to make a decision on what schools I would be applying to.

Bates would make an excellent choice for study in these fields.

Lewiston-Auburn is an area trying hard to get back on its feet. Some aspects are vibrant. But if you’re based on-campus, there’s little dependence on the outside community.

An update for any students reading this in the future: I was admitted into Bates via ED2, so I’ll be enrolling in the fall! My stats got me into Middlebury (long story) and St. Lawrence University as a Presidential Scholar. I applied and was accepted to a few safeties, but did not apply to any other reach or target schools given my circumstances. I think it would be wise to add that I am a URM and a first generation student. Good luck and go Bobcats!

How exactly were you accepted to Middlebury if you applied to Bates ED2?

Maybe the FA wouldn’t work or some other reason. ne2021 didn’t want the thread to go off topic and/or didn’t want to discuss it.

FA did not work out - Middlebury did not accept my appeal nor would they allow me to put my outside scholarships towards my parents’ contribution. I was able to withdraw from Midd because of these circumstances, and Bates allowed me to apply ED2.

Thanks for the clarification. I’m glad Bates was able to meet your financial needs. Middlebury’s loss is Bates’ gain!

That’s great. My son was admitted ED2 Saturday as well. I was very nervous to allow ED as we receive financial aid too- but Bates gave an awesome and perfectly fair amount ( commiserate with amounts my eldest got from all schools in RD rounds in 2019). Go Bates!!
