relax, you’re probably going to get in.

make your essays appealing (i.e. explain but don’t make an excuse for your C+'s) and your application pretty much mirrors mine, and i got in.

then again, i applied to the college of letters and science. if you’re doing an engineering related major, your chances go down. for admission to the college of L&S, you’re standing at 75%+, but for engineering, more like 50%. and since i’m just a lowly incoming freshman, my estimates could be way off.

haha congrats on getting in! and no way am i doing engineering. hahahaha. i’m trying to get as far away from math as i can :P

everything looks good except for your W GPA. It’ll definitely hurt you considering how much berkeley weighs GPA, especially compared to test scores. There have been tons of cases with students who have 4.5 UC GPAs and 1800 SAT scores getting in.

At Cal, HS GPA and class rank are more important than SAT scores.

RML–what makes you say that? As far as I know, GPA and test scores are very important for getting into Cal. They say they also look at how you’ve done in comparison to other students at your school, but it’s not clear that they mean class rank when they say that. For one thing, many schools don’t rank their students. The only reference I’ve ever seen to Cal using class rank as a factor is for ELC (the top 4%), and that’s only for in-state applicants.

^ I remember that on Cal’s admissions website it says:

SAT scores - important

HS GPA - very important

or something like that

aside from that, Cal doesn’t superscore SATs just like most private schools do.

But I’m sure one aspect of your application can make up for others. The OP’s achievements certainly show that he/she is qualified despite a low GPA. And the SAT score doesn’t hurt either.

Both GPA and SAT scores are important. I don’t think one is more important than the another.
The admissions do look at your class rank, but that’s only for ELC or any scholarships you might be getting (like Regents).
But to answer OP’s question, I think you’ll have a good chance. Although your GPA is awfully low, I think your ECs and SAT scores can balance that out. You might also want to write a good essay for the personal statement.

This year Berkeley admitted 10.7% of the applicants within the 3.70-3.99 UC GPA range (1,250 out of 11,692). So there is still a chance that you can get in.
