Thank you!

You need to get your ACT to a 30+ to have any kind of chance. A 26 will not make the cut despite your strong gpa and rank. Illinois won’t be much of a help.

You would be a strong candidate at many colleges, but Colgate’s middle-range ACT of 30-33 could be a barrier for you at this time. Considering the strength of other areas of your application, you should probably consider some test optional/flexible colleges. I’m not recommending you give up on Colgate, however – as you’ve indicated, your testing is not complete.

@merc81 I believe the mid range for Colgate has moved up a point to 31-34

@wisteria100 : Colgate commonly reports stats on its sites for admitted (not attending) students, so I simply use this site which seems to apply a uniform standard:

I’d like to see anything new you might have come across though.

i don’t see much leadership aside from the low act. membership in those ec’s is not good enough. if you increase your act, apply ed otherwise your chances are not so high.

Colgate middle 50 is 29-33, I just toured last week, its a beautiful school

@merc81 You are correct. I stand corrected

Cw82200,

I am glad you enjoyed the campus tour enough to mention that Colgate does indeed have a beautiful campus.
Of course, there is a good amount of new construction underway which will be a distraction for the next year to 17 months with 2 new freshman dorms on the Hill and the Benton Career Service Center. One can track progress at colgate.edu, banner “New Construction”.

About the admission stats for the middle 50 of ACT scores, I believe you may be mistaken. Colgate.edu
shows 31-34, at least for the Class of 2020:

Go 'gate!

I just received my score from the June testing date and I got a 30. I will continue to prep and take it again in September. @wisteria100 @merc81 @moneyp @Cw82200

@18mathmck incoming freshman here (i’ll dead snap a pic of my little 2021 poster if y’all think i’m trolling like the rest of y’all middle-aged bloggers are)

Everything looks strong just bump up ur act score and (highly recommended) start studying for at least 2 subject tests in subjects that you’re strong in or would boost you up even if you’re bad at those subjects (i did the latter) and finesse your essay (start ideating now to avoid anxiety later  )

Sincerely,

a freshie

So that everyone wil discuss the same statistics…

I see that the Class of 2021 stats were recently loaded on colgate.edu. They show Redesigned SAT Middle 50% of Admitted Students at 1400-1520 and ACT Middle 50% at 32-34.

@markham @followonsoundcloud @moneyp @wisteria100 My GPA is actually a 3.88 and my class rank 29/533. I now have a 31 on my ACT and a 32 superscored composite. Leadership wise I am the co-captain of the girls cross country/track teams, president of Spanish club, communications coordinator of my high schools Young Women United USA chapter and am the president/founder of the Habitat for Humanity Club. My common app essay is about being the child of a teenage mother and how that’s shaped me and motivated me to develop a strong work ethic. I submitted my ED application yesterday, how are my chances looking?

you have a very reasonable chance of making it. do you plan to visit? or have you visited?

I visited and interviewed this summer!

Good luck!

great. keep praying. it’s not final till the fat lady sings.

Colgate weirdly publishes accepted student stats rather than enrolled, needlessly discouraging students like the OP who have a shot with a 30/31 ACT score. Hey Colgate, you don’t need to do that! Enrolled student scores are high enough to attract star applicants. Just use the enrolled student numbers like other schools.

What were your ED results?

EDing definitely helps at Colgate(they’ll accept a lot ED and reject regular to keep acceptance rate low) and I assume Illinois will help too. I got around there on ACTs even after a tutor but then tried the new SATs and did much better, so maybe try that! Good luck! -Colgate Freshman
