I am applying to the School of Industrial and Labor Relations, as well as the College of Arts and Sciences for Economics at Cornell. Cornell is the best school on my list, I have others that are obviously more matched. Despite my GPA, What are my chances at Cornell and either of these colleges within cornell? I want to major in some form of business.

Thanks so much! AND AS PROMISED, I WILL CHANCE BACK IF NEEDED :)

Well, as you already know and have stated, your GPA is pretty low, however, I think that the pretty good SAT score brings it up a bit. I dont know the average SAT at cornell, but all in all, a 2090 is pretty good from what ive seen around :) (havent taken them myself)
Then there is the matter of all your basketball experience, especially being team captain as well as volunteering as a coach, i think that is really really important and is probably your biggest chance in to getting in :) your other EC's look pretty good too :)
though there will of course be hundreds of applicants with other crazy good EC's and better gpa/sat than you, i really do think that the athletics could help you.
i think they generally look for balanced well rounded people/classes... admitting lots of people with other great credentials will make you stand out :) also i think that many admissions officers realize that basically everyone could get a 4.0 and awesome SATs if they just put all their efforts into it, while not everyone can be as good at sports.. :) i even read that in an article somewhere.. :)
i think you have a shot, id say low reach for you :)
also, you should really have that teacher of yours who had contacts there try to help you, that goes a looong way!
good luck :D

Your test grades make you average/sub-average, but if you are applying to ILR and show a good fit for their curriculum, I think you have great chances. Remember, Cornell wants people who know what they want to do with their life.

i think that the main issue is your GPA but i love the fact that you're really dedicated to your sport, as am I to mine so I see where you are coming from. I think you have a shot but youre standardized test scores need to be a little better. is there a chance that you could retake some of your SAT II's? With better standardized test scores, you'll be pretty competitive!

I don’t really see you getting in but I can’t say that with experience…hey but anything can happen…you’re not to far off from there avg applicant.
