Chance me at Cornell University!

Hi everyone,

I have a feeling this will be a long shot, but I really love Cornell for what I want to do and I want to get an idea of what my chances would be if I applied for entry as a junior for Fall 2017.

In high school I was motivated, but I will admit that I could have done a lot better if I really applied myself. I graduated with a 3.3 GPA, I was involved in Spanish honor society, and had a few EC throughout my high school career. Nothing was ever really consistent because my school was extremely small and did not offer a lot of programs, so I did what interested me. I took AP Bio (2) and AP U.S. History (3) and several courses through a community college agreement with my high school. 6 credits of sophomore level Spanish, 3 credits of a college first year seminar, and 6 credits of Freshman English (103/104). I know that my AP scores are really not that great at all, but I did get decent grades in the CC courses that I took with A and B grades for all of them. SAT score is not stellar, I got a 1620. Writing 560, Verbal 520, and Math 540. I’m hoping my SAT won’t be too important applying as a junior.

I am currently enrolled at Onondaga Community College, which as an articulation agreement with CU which would help with transferring credits from here over there. I am taking 16 credits this semester, 6 credits over the winter session, and 17 in the spring. I’m also taking one CLEP (American Government) and I will be graduating with my associates in Humanities in May. Right now it look like I should have a pretty good GPA with all my classes at OCC, I’m on track to get at least an A- in all my courses this semester. If this keeps up for the winter classes/spring semester will I be in good shape?

I also interned on a political campaign this summer, and I plan on doing a few more volunteer things this winter. I’ll be applying to the College of Human Ecology for Policy Analysis and Management.

Why CU? Putting aside the fact that CU is a remarkable school, it’s close to home and I believe that their emphasis on the surrounding area is perfect for what I want to do. As a Central New York native I’d love to go to an institution that wants to see the area thrive as much as I do, and I think CU has the tools to help me make a better impact on this region. I also really love the Ithaca area as a whole. I was supposed to attend IC this year, but due to personal reasons I had had to change my plans last minute and that’s how I ended up at OCC.

What do you guys think? Any chance I would get looked at, or a complete waste of my time? I’m falling back on Policy Studies at Syracuse because they have a 2+2 with OCC that I’ll be eligible for.

Thanks!

ALSO - in the spring I am hoping to be invited to OCC’s Phi Theta Kappa chapter!
