Chance me at CSU and UC colleges

Hello all, I am applying for several CSU and UC schools and was hoping you guys could rate my chances. FYI, I am currently a New York State resident but my family will be moving permanantly to CA as soon as I graduate high school in June 2012.

My SAT's weren't great (plan to retake them in December), Reading 550, Math 540, Writing 550.

My high school gpa (using the CSU gpa calculator) is 3.87. That is a weighted gpa that includes both college classes I've already completed. I am either just inside, or just utside, the top 25% in my class.

New Visions Health Careers

I am applying to San Diego State, Cal State Long Beach, Fullerton and San Marcos.

For UC, I am applying to UC Riverside, Irvine, UCLA and UC San Diego. I know that a few of these of real long shots.

FYI, I have participated in community volunteer work my entire high school career, member of National Honor Society,I was accepted into New Visions Health Careers (half day, hands on exploration into health careers with clinical rotations), I have won a scholarship, achieved a 2nd degree black belt in Tae Kwon Do, participated in my schools marching band drumline (until the program was discontinued in my senior yr.), 3yrs of school band, 2 yrs. of school Art club and I am currently employed part-time.

What do you think guys?

Thanks to all!

I think you’re a definite in at all the state universities, and have an OK shot at UC Riverside and Irvine. LA and SD are more long shots, but you never know. As an out-of-stater it’s a bit tougher to get in. The SAT isn’t great, but if you can improve in December and distinguish yourself with your essays, you could be in. Impressive set of ECs!
Not familiar with the NY system…is Regents considered Honors?
Good luck with your application!

Thanks for the reply! No, Regents are not honors courses. In NYS, you either receive a general or “local” diploma or you can earn the Regents diploma. Regents courses are more advanced than general courses but not as advanced/accelerated as as honors courses. For each Regents course the student must take and pass the corresponding NYS Regents exam as well as whatever final exam the school/teacher uses.

I’m just concerned even about CSU Long Beach and San Diego State because all I seem to hear are stories about how difficult they can be to get into as an out-of-state student.

I would love to be accepted into a UC school but I know they are more competitive even. I know UCLA and San Diego are long shots, but I hope I have a chance at Riverside or Irvine.

You might also consider CSU Monterey Bay, and UC Santa Cruz.

I would have loved to consider more colleges but my family is moving to southern CA, and I need to be within an hour or two of them. That’s why I’m concentrating on most of the CA schools in southern CA only.

So…anyone else care to chance me? Please?

UCR - low match
UCI - low reach/high match
UCLA - high reach
UCSD - high reach
i hope you know the CSU’s selection are heavily based on regional residence in their admissions and don’t like to accept students out of their designated regions.

Yeah. I think you have a solid chance at all the schools except Riverside and Irvine. Best of luck to you!

Here’s an interesting look at acceptance rates. I’m assuming these stats are for Californians, though.

[CaliforniaColleges.edu - California State University (CSU) Acceptance Enrollment Rates](http://www.californiacolleges.edu/admissions/acceptance-enrollment-rate-csu.asp)

Yes, I’m aware that UC and CSU give heavy preference to CA residents. That’s why I’m a little nervous.

you should be in at the csus, although maybe not sdsu as it, in at riverside and irvine, probably not in at ucla or ucsd-though that could change if you write very well/have awesome ECs

I’m positive that you’ll get accepted into the CSUs. As for the UCs,
UC Riverside- High Target
UCI- Low Reach
UCSD- Mid Reach
UCLA- High Reach

Chance me back please  http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1238086-do-i-even-have-chance-upenn-stanford-uchicago-etc.html</a></p>

You’re positive with the CSU’s even though I’m waaaaay out of their service areas? I hope you’re right.

I’ve decided to add Cal Poly Pomona to my list. Anyone care to chance me for this one?
