What do you think my chances are for admission at dartmouth? My essay will be great also…thanks - all feedback is appreciated

^ Not a great time to ask. Folks are digesting this week's decisions.

I suggest you go through the profiles of those accepted and rejected at Dartmouth and other like schools. This will give you a better sense of your chances than can any individual on this site.

The cynic in me wants to say, statistically, you have at least a 1 in 7 chance of getting accepted. It truly is a crapshot.

You're probably lucky in that one of the things which may hurt you the most is fixable -- Those are great scores for CR/W but you may want to retake the SAT to try to bump up that math score. On my first take I scored a 650 but with a couple months of practice I got an 800.

If you provided more info about how your school grades or, if possible, your position in the class, that would help with analyzing your chances.

That philosophy club stuff looks awesome. Definitely play that up some and make sure that it's mentioned in your rec letter. Founding a club is very impressive I think and in addition to being Editor-In-Chief and those summer activities will put you at least in the running in terms of ECs.

As you must know, though, Ivy League admissions are very competitive and hardly predictable... I would request an interview if I were you and make sure you do well at it, I think that's what helped me get in. Overall if you work on that SAT score and have great essays like you said you should have about a 1/3 chance of getting in. Maybe 50/50 if you apply early decision. Good luck!

Ballet Girl, did you get in?

and by the way woody, my high school is a private college prep high school which is extremely competitive. There are 40 students in my grade, at least 20 of them are competitive candidates for top colleges...the school also has a double curriculum comprised of general and Judaic studies. I would assume that if we were in public schools with bigger classes, us 20 students would probably all be in the top 10 percent especially with the extra time (we currently get out of school at 6pm b/c of double curriculum).

--anyway, since there are only 40 or 50 students in each grade, my school doesn't rank...but i've taken the most rigorous course load my school offers and i've done pretty well in terms of grades.

--definitely will play up the philosophy club, it's been my favorite EC and i started it early in my sophomore year with the head of the english department. My essays going to incorporate it a lot b/c its going to be about my desire to break the uniformity of thought associated with my religious environment and my "rebellion of reason"...that kind of stuff, incorporating my other EC's as well.

She got in ED I believe.

Adman, if you get your SAT's up, I think you'll have a good chance. I like your intern activities.

Quote: Ballet Girl, did you get in?

Yes -- with sneamia in ED.

Agree with other posters -- get your SATs up, especially math (at least 80-100 pts) so that you are over 2200. Also make sure you represent your ECs and your reasons for why Dartmouth compellingly.

ya im going to take it again in october...thanks for the advice
