Current junior, plan on applying to FSU next year, anyway, here goes:

Asian-American male, live in Florida, coming from lower-middle class family
Major: Comp Sci

UW GPA: 3.5
W GPA: 4.1
Recalculated: 4.1 (for those who don’t know, this is the GPA that many Florida unis calculate and consider, it only counts math, english, science, history, and foreign language classes)
Trend is going up, was super lazy my freshman/sophomore year of high school (which may have screwed me over)
I go to the best public high school in my state (top 10 in the US), so my class is very competitive, however I do not know my class rank.

SAT: 1830 - 630 W, 630 R, 570 M (1st time, definitely retaking)
Have not taken ACT yet, but plan on taking it

Currently in IB program
SL: Latin, Math SL, Bio
HL: US History, Comp Sci, English

Taken APs: World (3), Psych (4), Euro (5)
APs taking this/next year: APUSH, Lang, Lit, Comp Sci A, Calc AB, Stat, Bio, Microeconomics

ECs:
Marching/concert band for 2 years (expecting 800-900 hours by the end of senior year)
100+ hours of other community service
Founder/leader of youth band at church
Job walking dogs in neighborhood (everyday)
History National Honors Society, Tri-M Honor Society (Band)

As you can see, my GPA isn’t the greatest, mostly because of laziness in my first 2 years and the IB program. I’m also going to be applying to UF, but it’s likely a reach school for me. Thanks in advance

Thanks for the input, but I guess my defense for that is that my band director doesn’t really like us missing band practices, so it’s nearly impossible for me to do any other clubs (thankfully, this is his last year, so maybe I can do more stuff next year). I do plan on doing some things to sharpen up my coding over the summer however, like taking Harvard’s CS50x course. I also plan on doing some more side projects (I have already made a functioning game of Monopoly in Java for my IB Comp Sci class).

I disagree. I think that if you get your math score way up on your SAT (maybe 670+), then you have a good chance

Your CR and Math are near the 75th percentile, but your writing is near 25th. Your GPA is also on the low side for FSU. At this point, I’d say chances are maybe less than 50/50. Are you retaking the SAT? If so, try using Erica Meltzer’s book on SAT writing to study. The “Common Data Set” of each school will help you see where you sit in relation to admitted students. Most schools post them online.

Thanks! That’s very useful! I am definitely going to be retaking the SAT to try to get a superscored 1900 AT LEAST. I honestly didn’t study the first time I took the SAT, but I plan on borrowing my friend’s review book next time around.
