Chance me at GIT !!

Hi, i currently live in Texas, about to move to Georgia soon after i finish my junior year.

Here are my grades that i received in Texas High school so far (really competitive)

My GPA in Texas school is

Unweighted - 3.55
Weighted - 4.41
Ranked 97 of 721

I converted these GPA according to the GPA system (out of 100 points) in Georgia High school that i'm going to attend:

Unweighted - 89.103
Weighted - 93.931

As you can see, I'm mostly a B+ student.

I just too my first SAT last Saturday, so i just want some advice for now based on my GPA and my grades that i got.

Am i in good shape for Georgia Tech, UGA and GSU?
I'll appreciate so much for your advice!

I calculated a 3.63 GPA. That’s more than enough for UGA and GSU but it’s borderline for GT. With a really high SAT, you’ll be OK, but just to be sure you’ll want to bring it up a little.

Anyone else please?

You should be in good shape for UGA and GSU but a 3.55 is marginal for GT. I had an UW 3.91 and 10 APs. As long as you do well on the SAT, you’ll have a shot but it’s not a sure thing.

Silentcloud:

My GPA is currently 3.64 according to how GT calculates it.

I just got my first SAT score back and i got a 1870…
CR-540
Writing-610
Math-720

I’m going to take it 3 more times, and i’m aiming for at least 2100.

How hard is it to get into GT?

Oh, okay. A 3.64 is a lot better but the middle-50% for the class of 2015 was 3.76-4.07 and for test scores, 1940-2160. I applied this year with a 32 ACT and a 3.91 and got accepted EA but wasn’t admitted to the honors program or made a semi-finalist for PS. I’m for sure not an expert but just some things to keep in mind. Do you have a job or good ECs?

I don’t really have a good EC…

I’ve gotten 2nd place in Freshman Regional Band competition
I’ve been in NHS for 3 years
Model UN for 2 years
Math club for a year but i didn’t do anything there…

Does GT consider EC a lot?
IF so, how can i possibly mprove it?

I doubt GT considers ECs “a lot” other than for scholarships but I think having good ones helps. You might want to get a job or at least continue Model UN and NHS next year. But other than that, just make sure you really try on the essays. Tech’s one of the few schools that actually cares about them.

If its a 3.63, its no where near the “borderline”. The average GPA this year for admitted is about 3.9.

kopk888:

So do you think i have no chance?
What if i manage to raise it up to like 3.77 in my senior year?

But i’ve emailed GT admission counselors, and they said they don’t count your senior year grades to calculate your GPA… But i’m still gonna try to raise it up for other colleges.

If you watch the admitted threads, you see some 3.5-3.7 students get in, so it is borderline (granted, those are probably people with unbelievable test scores, great ECs and/or minority status). If you’re also considering the test scores, I agree that a 3.63 + 1870 is almost certainly a rejection, but the OP has time to increase that to 2100+

What are some other colleges i should consider? anyone?

Is Virginia Tech hard to get in?

You’re a match if you drop down a tier or two in the engineering rankings: VT, NCSU, UMD, TAMU, Cal Poly SLO, RPI, WPI, RIT, etc. But keep GT on the list and try to get those test scores up. It’s not impossible.

Anyone else?
