Chance me at HYPS, UChicago, Columbia?

It's that time of the year, and I'd appreciate some extra help in considering what college I should early action to and what my chances are. Here are my quals:

SCHOOL RANKING:
GPA: 3.99 unweighted (we don't have rankings, but I'd estimate I'm in the top 10 out of 800 in our class) with one A- sophomore year in Enriched (honors) Biology
Classes: I've taken or tested out of every honors and AP class offered in our school, except for AP Lit and Comp
I'm currently taking classes at the university of the state I'm living in - one freshman level class and two junior level classes.
Second semester I will be taking AP Literature and Composition, Spanish 5, and a Mentor Development thing where we meet with someone in a field that we're interested in and do some independent work

TESTS:
SAT: 2380 (800 reading, 780 math, 800 writing)
ACT: 36 (36 in all 4 sections with 10 on the essay)
PSAT: 240
I took 22 AP tests total, got 5's on 20 of them and 4's on 2 of them
State AP Scholar
National Merit Semi-Finalist (finalists come out later this year)

MAJOR EXTRACURRICULARS:
Varsity Policy Debate, 9-12, Captain 11-12, placed at multiple national and local tournaments and helped build the team from 6 varsity members my sophomore year to 20 varsity members this year
Math Team 10-12, Captain 11-12, took the AIME twice, competed at ARML my sophomore year (too busy to do so my junior year)
Varsity Speech 9-12, placed at local tournaments and qualified to State

MISC. EXTRACURRICULARS:
National Honor Society member 11-12
Volunteering ~ 100 hours total
Sketching/Acrylic Painting for 5 years, stopped junior year, won two Grand Prizes and some lesser at the state fair
Piano for 7 years, stopped junior year
Track and Field sophomore year
Served on my city's diversity commission as a student rep junior year
Tutoring (just this year)

SUMMER:
Spent my summers at debate camp: 4 weeks after freshman year, 7 weeks after both sophomore and junior years

Finally, I don't have true work experience. I might get a job this year, but I don't think it'll count for much either way. My demographic background will not work to my advantage.

Any and all comments and constructive criticism is appreciated. I realize that all six schools are reachers, but if there's any suggestions on differentiating between my chances at each, that would be awesome.

I’ll chance back!

what race are you?

"My demographic background will not work to my advantage. "

I’m Asian

Dude… does your name start with a “D?” You sound almost the same as a kid I know. You have a good chance of getting into any of them. You will get into at least 1 of the schools you listed and will probably get into at least 3 as long as if your essays are very good.

for a second I thought this was a joke. 20 5’s? are you kidding?

holy…uhmm. yeah well you are good on testing. I think you are one of those rare cases where it is clear that you will get into a few of the schools you listed. Even out of HYPSM alone…someone will most likely take you. But you will still need good essays and such. I would say apply ED to your top, since ED is actually helpful.

pretty good chances bro

You have chances at those colleges.

"My demographic background will not work to my advantage. "

You got that right!

Thanks everyone so far! hopefully the recs and essay come through…and @WhaleWhale, my name does not start with a ‘D’ sorry haha

In. In at all of them. I wouldn’t be surprised if you got likelies from several of these schools.

@ Navyblueninja: I think that’s a little too optimistic. This guy reminds me of christiansoldier, a CC user in the high school class of 2010 who also had literally perfect stats. He had a 2400 SAT, 800s on something like 6 or 7 subject tests, and 5s on 20 AP exams, yet he was flat-out rejected by Harvard and Yale. He also had strong ECs, for which he won many awards. Luckily, Princeton accepted him, so he’s currently a student there. I would say that assuming the OP’s essays and recs are stellar, he should be able to get into at least one of the schools he listed in his title.

@calgirl15: Where would you recommend SCEA-ing to? assuming the only thing that separates them is how hard it is to get in on average. Or does it make no difference? I just want to make sure I don’t use it on too much of a reach when it could have helped better elsewhere…thanks for the help!

It’s hard to predict which school out of HYPS will be the hardest/easiest to SCEA to at this point. Just go with the school you like the best.

HYPS:
You have chances. Nobody can chance you for these schools.

Columbia, Chicago:
You have decent chances.

Be happy if you get into any of the schools on your list.

This one russian girl class of '06 at my school took 23 AP’s and got 5’s on all of them. You have really good chances, if you do not mind me asking how did you manage to take so many AP’s also could you possibly list them? Give tips? Thanks! Goodluck!

Thanks for the frankness - I think I have a better general idea of what’s going on.

@rfav32: starting taking them early is good, a lot of them are fairly doable on your own without a class - just work hard, same with anything else. If you’re willing to budget your time and do the self-studying, it comes.

Honestly you have to be one of the best applications I have ever seen on this forum. Like seriously, you should have no problem getting in well at least with a good essay that is

thanks! hopefully ill get into at least one of hyps haha
