UCSD

So what are my chances of getting in? And do you have any recommendations for other schools after seeing my list?

Thanks

Some suggestions please? Any would be greatly appreciated!

Stanford, Harvard & Columbia are probably reaches unless you get your SAT reasoning up (and possibly SAT IIs). Amherst, UPenn, Dartmouth and Northwestern are probably matches. I think you should have no big problems getting into the rest of the schools on that list. Considering your interests, you may also want to look at University of Washington-has one of the best political science depts.

cool. thanks. anybody else have any comments/thoughts?

Think about George Washington as a fallback. Although the college isn’t that great (compared to the rest of your list), the IR department is actually quite outstanding, far better than the other departments.

have i met you in APAC anything?

No ivy is a match. At international schools many will usually be applying to ivies. Who applies from your school and country and how you rank among them will be the biggest factor.

You have average at best ( SATlls are low) stats for top schools which puts you in the running,

international competition sucks :(

Ivies are unpredictable.

Most likely acceptances at UCLA, Georgetown, UCSD, UC Berkeley, Amherst, Tufts, and Wesleyan

^ aren’t the UCs insane for out of states. especially internationals? esp. berkeley and LA?

3.97 UW GPA, 2210 SAT, decent SAT IIs, and somewhat impressive/consistent ECs are good enough for UCs, not to mention the OP is coming from an “elite” school.

Since the UCs are financially hurting right now, some people have said it’s easier for OOS applicants to be admitted since they pay higher tuition if they matriculate. It’s still harder than if the applicants were in-state though.

thanks for the input you guys…
well I’m not really rich, only go to an international school with massive discount so I definitely need financial aid…and a lot of it. Hopefully that doesn’t make the UC’s bend their decision on letting me in

Unless you get your SAT up, it is going to be pretty difficult competing against other internationals with 2300+ scores. To be honest, I am not sure whether colleges that are need-blind nationally are the same for internationals (I doubt it), so financial aid could certainly be an issue with your app. I see you as being very competitive with the UCs, a little less so with Georgetown/Northwestern/UChicago, mid-reach for lower Ivies, and not too likely for Harvard/Stanford.

By the way, I hate to hijack posts, but does anyone know how to link your own chance thread? I’ve seen people do it but I’m pretty slow with these things.

The UCs will probably let you in, your stats are in range and they accept 50% of intnl applicants, but they do not give them any aid.

Since you are an international student, you have a much higher chance of getting into ivys with your qualifications. I have a cousin who also did a lot of service and activities, scored a 1990 on the SAT, and is currently attending yale
