I feel like essays are pretty good, but can't be sure. I also interview very well (tons of practice, have done like 200 job/internship interviews).

Thank you! And always happy to chance back.

Penn (Wharton) ED - reach
Yale - reach
Columbia - reach
Princeton - reach
Stanford - reach
Rice (chance for merit scholarship?) - match
Cornell - match
Carnegie Mellon (chance for merit scholarship?) - match
UC Berkeley EECS - match
UCLA CE/CS - match
USC - match

All the ivies + Stanford are reaches for everyone, so don’t think that it’s just you. Even though they are reaches, I would be surprised if you didn’t get into at least one because you are probably on the higher end of the applicant pool. I guess the only advice I could give is that it is hard to figure out what your interests are (you want to apply to Wharton yet you want to do EECS at Cal). Just make sure you emphasize your interests in your essays (I think I may have found it a little vague since you didn’t talk about your ECs for privacy issues). Regardless, you have a great profile.

My goal is to do engineering then mba- but there are multiple opportunities to do both business and technology at Wharton as an undergraduate (M&T, CS minor, engineering entrepreneurship minor, etc.) which is why I am applying there ED.

For most schools I am applying engineering, though applying econ at Yale to leave another possibility open.

@DrGoogle How is it “reachy” with his stats? He has a 2300+, 4.0, top 5% rank, and all 5s in APs.

@puzzled123 If there’s one thing I can tell you to improve on, that is to lace all your ecs together. Your ecs are great, but unfortunately quite a bit of people probably have similar ecs. Is there anything unique that you do? The tech internship looks interesting. Did you have to interview for it? Do you have any other major awards?

@puzzled123 - It’s all possible. Your academic qualifications would put you in the top 25% of admitted students at all of these schools, including Stanford, Princeton, and Yale.

This is where it gets challenging. These schools accept few students on academic qualifications alone. Why should they accept you rather than someone else with similar stats? You need to make sure you stand out from the rest. A lot of that comes down to how you present yourself in your application and interview.

Odds are, if you do a good job of this, you’ll be accepted to one of the obvious reaches. But it’s not guaranteed.

Lots of kids with those stats. My kids had better stats then that but was rejected from Princeton(expected) and WL at MIT. And those reachy schools are not admissions per stats either. Stanford is not about stats. Only maybe Wharton, but I think he has better chance at CAS Penn ED than Wharton.

Where did your kids end up going to school?

Also, do I have a decent shot at Berkeley EECS or should I just apply CS instead? I definitely want to have either UCB or UCLA as an available option if privates don’t work out.

You are in the ballpark for all the below for the top 5 reaches. It depends on you, if you sure you only want CS, then don’t bother to apply to EECS at Berkeley.

Penn (Wharton) ED - Low Reach
Yale - High Reach
Columbia - low reach
Princeton - Reach
Stanford - Reach
Rice (chance for merit scholarship?) - match
Cornell - match
Carnegie Mellon (chance for merit scholarship?) - match
UC Berkeley EECS - match
UCLA CE/CS - match
USC - match

^This was mainly based objectively, your stats are great and you have really strong ECs, to increase chances to the top five schools my advice is to write a really good essay and you will have a decent shot.

Wharton ED could be a target for you. I know someone with the same SAT score as you and about the same level of extracurriculars who got into Wharton via RD.

You should be good to go for Berkeley EECS too. I’m not sure about UCLA and USC because I haven’t really looked at their requirements.

Yale, Stanford, and Princeton are reaches for everyone.

Colombia, Cornell, and Rice are low reaches.
