Majoring in either engineering or business

You’re doing great. Yes, all of those schools are reaches, but someone with your stats can realistically aspire to those kinds of school. BUT you also can not count on getting into any reach school—simply because they turn down more qualified applicants than they accept. The competition is fierce. So, don’t give up on your “reach” schools, but spend just as much time and effort finding match and safety schools that you would be happy with. Given my daughter’s experience, sometimes finding schools that love you as much as you love them can be very liberating. (She was offered a good merit scholarship at an excellent “match” school…and didn’t even apply to the long list of “reaches” that had caught her eye earlier in the process.).

My stats are very similar to yours and the colleges im applying to are also very similar (almost exact matches). That being said, I think those are excellent reaches, and in fact, a few of them (like BC, UNC) could be considered matches.

You’re in a really good place! It think that you have a pretty fair chance at all the schools you’re applying for! Just make sure not to let anyone doubt yourself. You are a very qualified applicant! Just make sure you spend a lot of time on your essays to ensure that your chances remain high.

Good Luck!

@cuberbun I would not consider UNC a match unless the OP is in-state, and even then I would be hesitant. UNC is very selective with OOS applicants.

@PureShores I’m not in state. I live in connecticut. None of the schools I put down on this list were to be considered as matches, I realize that they are reaches, some more than others. I was just asking if it’s even worth applying to some of these super selective schools with my stats.

@hopperdeee

Tufts- High Match ( since your applying ED)

BC- High Match

Georgetown- Reach

Cornell- Reach

UPenn- High Reach

Emory- Reach

Georgia Tech- Reach/ High Reach ( public school and you’re OOS)

Johns Hopkins- High Reach

UNC- High Reach ( public school and you’re OOS)

Your probably have better time at Emory ED or ED2 because of your ethnicity/ 2nd generation American status.

@VANDEMORY1342
If I’m applying for the business school for BC and Emory I don’t really understand why BC is a high match and Emory is a reach. The acceptance rates for both business schools are similar, I visited BC and for the business school the acceptance rate was 22 percent. I also I am under the assumption that the business school at BC is ranked above Emory’s. Not trying to be cocky and saying I could easily get into emory I just disagree that it’s a reach. My guidance counselor wrote that down as a match for me. I would just like to know why you think that’s a reach because I really don’t wanna use my early decision on a school I could get in with just regular admission. I’m using one of my ed’s on tufts because I don’t think I would get in regular and I really like the school.

I would retake the SAT and get a 1500+. Schools like Cornell and Penn pretty much expect that from applicants. Good Luck!

@collegeboundprogrammer
I was thinking of retaking the sat and my score has gone up each time I have taken it. But I already taken it three times. I’m pretty confident my score will go up. But is it worth it?

@hopperdeee Tell your guidance counselor exactly what I said. It’s uninformed counselors like him/her that negatively affect US news with uninformed biases. No department at BC is ranked Higher than Emory’s corresponding department. Goizueta BBA is ranked 15 this year. And although your stats are high, there not high enough to be a match at most of these schools.

Emory- 1475

Cornell- 1480

I really think you should use ED on Hopkins or Cornell and ED2 at Emory. You shouldn’t just look at acceptance rate look at avg SAT for the class before.

If you have taken it three times, then taking it a fourth time will not help.
