I’m Taylor Brown, one of the student ambassadors working for the Lafayette College admissions office. I do NOT play a role in admissions decisions, but I am familiar with what our admissions directors evaluate in applications.

Also, please keep in mind that the admissions process at Lafayette is holistic, and includes factors other than grades and standardized test scores (although those factors ARE important). Extracurricular involvement and contribution to the community are among the many non-academic factors that are taken into account when making admissions decisions. Additionally, I would like to note that the interview (whether on campus or by one of our alumni representatives in your area) is very strongly recommended and has become a more important part of the admissions process over the past few years. An interview adds character to an applicant, which is important in our holistic review.

That being said, I encourage you to apply to Lafayette! If you have any questions, please feel free to ask me, or refer to my “Lafayette Questions and Answers” forums.

That being said, in my opinion you should only apply to a school ED if: 1) you are positive that it is your top choice and 2) you don’t need to compare financial aid offers from different schools.

happy1 sums it up well. Applying early decision greatly enhances your odds of acceptance. Applying early decision is the ultimate demonstration of interest (something that our admissions office values). However, only apply early decision if you are certain that Lafayette is your #1 choice of school, since the early decision agreement is binding.
