Chance me at my reahces please?: Hopkins, Swarthmore, Middlebury, BC

GPA: 3.7/4 (elite boarding school this is really high for my school)
SAT: 720 (math), 660 (reading), 690 (writing): 2070 composite
rank: we don't rank, I think I'm at least top 15 percent though

Freshman - Sophomore: honors classes
Junior: Spanish 3 Honors, Precalc, AP English, Accelerated Physics, US History, Japanese 1 (indep. done)
Senior: AP Stats, AP Spanish, AP Psych, English, Calc, Anatomy/Physiology

Mock Trial 4 years and president
Spanish Club Leader
Newspaper Writer 4 years
GSA/Fem Club
Tour Guide 4 Years
Camp Councilor
there are more but these the main ones

For Hopkins I would apply as a language major because this is my passion, I got an A+ for all three terms in honors Spanish and averaged an A so far in AP and did an independent study in Japanese

Also I'm a white male

These are all reaches, but I'm wondering how much so..... (also perhaps ED2 for which?)

Don't worry I have a long list of safeties these are all reaches! Also, should I apply to Cornell if I have legacy for the hell of it?

Any other recs? My family members went to sub-par colleges and I just want to finally be the one in my family who goes somewhere and does something extraordinary..

I think your stats are really good but in my opinion for cornell you need to get that SAT score up and especially the reading one as you want to apply as a language major

might also look at Holy Cross.

@reddevil10‌ @par72‌ thank you!

Yup for Johns Hopkins and Cornell, I you might need slightly higher GPA and SAT.
Did you take any SAT IIs?

You really have a solid attitude about this, and I’m not trying to be rude, but you aren’t an overly compelling candidate. You have great overall stats, but all in all each one of these institutions is looking for great stats and a compelling story. Your EC’s aren’t spectacular which is really important if you’re only an okay applicant to these schools. That being said, I think you have a solid chance at getting into at least one of these schools, Middlebury will like the language aspect. Good luck :-)

Hopkins: reach
Swarthmore: reach
Midd: low reach
BC: High match

Cornell: reach

@sewook123‌ I do need SAT II’s which is why I’m screwed because I couldn’t get on the Dec. test, but I’m doing Spanish, Math, and English in January since I’'ll RD to these schools - thank you!

@Alden97‌ ah thank you for the thorough response! I’m really not an overly compelling candidate to be honest. I didn’t start my own foundation and my stats aren’t jumping off the paper (although I think they clearly indicate consistence and potential).

Do you have any particular EC’s that you think are very valuable?

Actually Midd is my top choice and I think I’m gonna ED 2 there

I think my most compelling story is being a student of minority sexual orientation - it’s been my greatest struggle and although it’s not a statistic or anything, in an interview/supplement it’s a part of my life that I think it will show much of the adversity I have to face…Although there are many people like me with many struggles, but I’m pretty good at articulating this aspect of my life.

I’m hoping for myself, and also that you end up where you want! Thank you
