I think you’ve got a better than average chance, maybe better than 50/50 depending on whether you’re first generation college. However, your academics, while great by national standards, aren’t quite strong enough to make you a safe enough candidate to get into all those schools even as a minority. One hopeful note though is that Pomona seems to be beefing up its athletic programs. Are you applying as a recruit?

You seem strong for all. I believe all of the schools you listed superscores so you may want to take one more time just to increase chances, however now you are within their range.

Assume all are RD now?

JBHE does an annual article about % African American students that are accepted. Amherst is 39% and Pomona is 24%.

Good luck!

Thanks for the replies, and no I am not applying as a recruit. However, I would like to play a sport at either colleges if that means anything. Also both my parents have went to college already.

Are you applying ED? If so then a real solid chance, but do you have any leadership in those Extra circulars? Also if your course schedule is rigorous by your school standards will play a huge role. SAT honestly is good enough maybe a little lower on the average but not bad. I’d say a match ED. Reach-Low Reach RD

solid SATs, but your GPA and ECs lack a little- if you write great essays and have awesome LORs then you would definitely have a chance of getting in

What type of ECs does Pomona like?

If Pomona college like your essay, you will definitely get accepted!
