Chance me at Rice?

Hi, it would be great if somebody could let me know my chances at getting into Rice RD! I was deferred from Yale and UNC (out of state) early action.

I applied for the School of Social Science with the potential majors PoliSci, Econ, or Environmental Science
I go to a competitive all-girls private school that doesn’t give out rankings

GPA: 4.05/4.3 (4.0 being straight As and 4.3 being straight A+)
APs: World History, French, Calculus AB, US History, Environmental Science – all 5s
I’m taking two more AP courses this year (BC and Comp Gov) and most of my other classes are honors level

New SAT: 1590
SAT Math II/Literature: 770

Submitted 2 teacher recs and 1 advisor rec

Activities: Stage Crew for 4 years (head of build my junior year and head of all crew my senior year), Model UN for 3 years, Coordinator of a community service program my senior year, Varsity Golf for 3 years, Political Club for 2 years (secretary 10th grade, president 11th grade)

The summer before my senior year, I worked at Six Flags as a lighting technician the summer as well as attending a week-long internship with my congressman.

Essays – probably about 8/10, I worked really hard on them and I think they’re interesting and show clear interest in attending Rice, but they’re not necessarily stand-out/perfect level.

Not sure if this is influential whatsoever, but my grandfather and aunt went to Rice?

I had my interview in December which I thought went well. Also, I live in Texas, which I’ve heard might actually hurt my chances? I did go visit a couple weeks before submitting my application and wrote a bit on my visit in my essays.

Please let me know my chances!

@whyamihere99 I think you have as good as a chance as any. Rice tries to fill a class so if you have what they need then you have a good chance. I know it is harder to get in from Texas because it is a small school. I guess you’ll now have to sit back and wait.

You sound like a good candidate, but Rice is a reach for almost everyone because of the low admission rates. Don’t lose heart. Does your school have Naviance? If so, that should give you a good idea of how students from your school with similar grades and scores have done being admitted to Rice in the past. It was a spot on predictor for my daughter’s admission from a Texas private school that did not rank. Rice is probably very familiar with the rigor of your school if it is in Texas. Not as many students apply for the school of social sciences as for the STEM heavy disciplines so that may help a bit. The family connections can’t hurt either. My daughter says lots of kids she knows at Rice also applied to Yale. This is not a surprise since they both have the residential college system. Don’t let the Yale deferral get you down. Hopefully you will get good news from Rice towards the end of March.
