Chance me at SDSU?

SDSU is my dream school because of many factors

  1. Location
  2. Cost is more bearable than my other choices like the UC’s
  3. Business Program

I was wondering my chances at the school as an out of state student? APPLYING AS A BUSINESS MAJOR!

SAT: 1190 (Only taken once, nov will be my second one and the final one sdsu will accept)
CSU GPA: If i calculated correctly, it should be a 4.25

(8 classes of with all A’s sophomore year with 1 ap class both semester)
(8 classes with 2 B’s first semester and 1 C second semester, 2 College Classes and 2 Ap Classes, with 1 Advanced class, which I am not sure if the advanced class counts.)

However, I am not sure if my CSU gpa will consider my freshman gpa (which was a 4.0) and certain classes like P.E and health

In summary

Also just to confirm, but Cal states like SDSU admit only based on eligibility index and nothing else but extracurricular / essays? Does this mean that if my EI is in the top __% then I am automatically admitted in? Also how much more difficult is it for me considering that I am out of state and doing business as a major? I hope to improve my SAT this upcoming November but this pressure is really getting to me. Thank you.

SDSU admits by Eligibility index and major so no EC’s or essays are required or considered. You need to make sure you have completed all the a-g course requirements including 1 year of a visual/performing arts requirement so you need another semester of Ceramics to be eligible.

OOS applicants only get the extra honors points in the CSU/UC GPA calculation for AP and IB courses taken 10-11th grades only.

Based on your posted stats, I get 4.08 CSU/UC capped weighted UC GPA. Health/PE classes do not count and you have 3 AP classes so 6 extra honors points.

EI= (4.08 x 800) + (1190)= 4454. A 4200+ can be competitive depending upon major so I think you have a good chance especially since you are an OOS applicant which will be full pay.

No automatic admissions even for local applicants. You will be ranked by your EI and major and SDSU will accept students from the top down until all spots are filled. SDSU is an impacted campus meaning all majors have more qualified applicants than spots.

Thank you Gumbymom! I always appreciate your posts, Just out of curiousity but as someone who plans to major in business, is there any data that you happened to have on the average EI of last year’s business majors class? And also to clarify, what is the honor college they have at SDSU, what is it meant to be (like is the honors college meant for a certain major)? I have no idea what an honors college is or what it is used for, so if you could fill me in on that I would appreciate it greatly. Thank you again for the insight, you are the best gumbymom!

The Weber’s Honors college is open to all applicants but the High Stat applicants get priority and will also get an invite upon acceptance. However, you are able to apply without the invite. It is not major specific and many great perks.

Below is more information about the Honors college:

Some perks are priority registration, Honors specific housing, Mentorships

Regarding EI’s for Business majors. Based on 25 data points from this past year, the EI range was 4308-4780 for accepted applicants. This is my own data collection based on posted Stats on College Confidential so this data is no way a complete representation of all admits.
