I am a senior in the midst of applying to colleges. Smith is my top choice by far. I had my interview and the interviewer gave my dad a thumbs up, which is a good sign.
I go to a top public school in MA. My GPA is a 3.59 weighted.
I received Bs on the low end and As on the higher end all through my high school years, minus a C in Algebra junior year due to a variety of factors but the most prominent being my dad’s health. Currently I take 2 APs (US Gov and English Literature and Composition) in addition to Honors Spanish. Last year I took AP US History and Language and Composition with no honors courses. I have two C’s at the end of my first quarter in English and Spanish, so I worry about this affecting my chances.
I am involved in a variety of extracurriculars. I am the Vice President of my class, the Vice President of Women’s Rights Awareness Group, and secretary for Interact Club (young version of Rotary Club). I also play field hockey and am active in student government.
I want to major in English and minor in education (secondary but that may change).
I also have two really good teacher recommendations in addition to an alumni recommendation letter from my current English teacher. Chance me please!
I forgot to mention my SAT II is a 1340 and my ACT is a 28. I have sent them both.
The average GPA of matriculating applicants is 3.94. Only 27% of incoming Smithies have the grades you do, and some of those probably have hooks. Your scores are ok, but not really enough to really make up for your grades. Right now, I’d say Smith is a low Reach for you. Good luck!
Once again Smith is not reporting accurate numbers. Only 64% of the matriculating students had a gpa greater than 3.75. Even if 64% of students had a 4.0, and I know for a fact that’s not the case, it’s not mathematically possible to have an average of 3.94 when factoring the 36% who had <3.75…many much below 3.75
@sommerbyers I’d say good chance.
I’m an int student and still applying with an 1880 SAT. Good essays will get you in for sure
denied for those who are looking at this later
Hi, I’m also an international student, but I reside in the U.S. Smith has been my dream school since I was in ESOL. Is it true that if you can almost pay the total cost of attendance, the chance of you getting increases? I know financial aid is more limited for non U.S. citizens.
Another though: There were ~1290 woman who were accepted but chose not to attend. It would be interesting to know how of the gpa <3.75
