Can anyone chance me ?

what’s LAC?

^Liberal Arts College

Yeah, most of the schools I am looking at are Liberal Arts ones. Any comment about my chance as well as suggestion for “safer” schools ?

Can anyone help me please ?

bump !! Can you guys chance me ?

Bowdoin (ED) - reach (depends on your essay and teacher recs)
Middlebury - reach (depends on your essay and teacher recs)
Brandeis - match (you really need to show some interest)
Connecticut College - match (write great essays!)
Vassar - reach (I suggest you to exemplify your ‘My Space’ section and essay)
Lafayette - match (you may have some competition, a lot of internationals are applying there)
Quinnipiac - safety (I haven’t heard them giving international aid though)
Franklin and Marshall - match (This is a great college though if you’re into Biology)

Thanks so much. Any more suggestion for somewhat “safer” colleges ?

I’m not that familiar with each of these schools, but generally it looks like you have a chance with your solid ECs, awards and grades. I would organize the ECs on your apps to show strong passion for one or two of them.

I think you’re in at Connecticut College + Quinnipiac

Thanks, I will pay attention to your suggestion. Any other suggestion ?

What is your intended major? Which state or section do you particularly want to study in? I can suggest some ‘safety’ colleges depending upon that ;)

Oh, I plan to major in Economics and Sociology or Anthropology. I am pretty much looking for schools in New England area.

Any suggestion ?

Definitely the ivies are the best in everything…but as we’re not in that group, here are some suggestions.

University of Minnesota-Twin Cities has an excellent Economics program (my uncle actually is a PhD from there). It could be great if you’re not into the New England area and if you don’t need financial aid. ;)

The top public schools (UW-Madison, UC-Berkeley, UM-Ann Arbor, UNC-Chapel Hill, UCLA) are the best in Sociology, but they’re only good for you if you agree to pay in full :(

There are great LAC’s and U’s out there which would be perfect for you:
Colby (I actually read a review about Dr. David Findlay, the economics professor there. He’s great!)
Bryn Mawr (If you’re a female (which you haven’t mentioned though) this is the best college if you’re looking for a future degree in Anthropology)
Boston University (This has a great program according to what I read in other CC threads)
Washington & Lee University (Located close to the nation’s capital, it bears strong programs in Humanities and Social Sciences which might be worth to look at ;))
Wabash College (This is a hidden pioneer in Economics and Prebusiness, not many people know about this, but this can be a great safety if you’re a male)
Trinity College (I read on the Fiske’s Guide that it has a great Econ program)

If you’re looking for a dream school in particular, Swarthmore should be your target because it has the best programs in humanities, social sciences and political sciences.

Hope that helps. Feel free to ask any question you have  :D

Yeah, paying full tuition and room and board is just impossible for my family. Thus, I can’t apply to those amazing public schools.

Thanks for your suggestions. I will probably take a look at Wabash, Trinity, and Colby.

I like Swarthmore too. Do you think it is out of my range ?

Any more suggestions for safer schools ?

Any more comment ?

Let Swarthmore be out of your range…you never know till applying ;)…so just apply as a dream school…applying to dream schools is just like buying a lottery ticket and hoping your number comes up in the draw :)…so just apply properly with everything done and be positive :D

The suggestions I can give you at this stage is write stellar essays, get awesome teacher recs and make sure that every info on your app is complete.

Thanks. Do you know any safer schools that I should take a look at ?

The safer schools you maybe looking at might not pay enough to internationals :(

That’s tough. I truly realize that. That’s why I am risking my chance by going for tougher schools where I know are more generous for International students. Bowdoin is not that generous though, but I love the school too much so I am still appyling ED there and hoping for the best.

How are social sciences at Depauw University, do you guys know ?
