Chance me at Stanford

I’m a sophomore currently
Race: Black and Asian
Gender: Male
School : Top public school
Classes: 6 honors and 1 AP taken
GPA (w): 3.96
GPA (uw): 3.70

EC: Varsity Basketball, Varsity Track, Freshmen Mentor, Student Board of Directors of DifferentLikeYou.com, Cancer research in Case Western Reserve’s Biomedical Engineering department, Lifeguard, Co-Founder of my schools Black Culture Club, Youth For Christ, Diversity Acceptance Program, Intern for Artificial Intelligence Laboratories, Started my own lawn care business, Junior Ambassador for Cleveland clinic (volunteering).

Junior year: Plan to take
AP Calculus BC
AP Chemistry
AP Economics
Honors English 11
Spanish IV
US Gov / Pubic Speaking

Teacher Rec: My guidance counselor and I are very close
Test scores: I would probably get anywhere from a 30-35 on ACT and 2000-2250 on SAT
Income: upper middle class

The goal is All A’s next year to keep my gpa up which is the weakest part of my application.

I know this seems absurd because I’m in 10th grade, I just feel I could use someones perspective of my chances. I am class of 2018 btw.

GPA is low for stanford, if you do get it up to par for stanford, you have nothing else which really distinguishes you from other applicants. If I were you, I would focus on your research and really put a lot of effort into that. Doing this would give you the best shot at Stanford

Good luck!

Thanks for the advice!

Since you go to a top public school, it would have been better for you to have more APs under your belt.
Thats a really big standardized test score range youve got there.
Try to improve your GPA.
nice ECs

good luck.

Thanks Fake Cat, would you say taking 5 APs next year is too much?

The amount of APs you take being “too much” is really dependent upon your available time, work ethic, and how the classes themselves are taught. No one can determine what is too much for you. An AP European History class at High School A might have much more work than an AP European History class at High School B.

As said above, your GPA is abit low for Stanford. Also, your test score range is enormous. How are you determining this? If you are going based on the fact that you think you’re smart and that you do well in school, you might be in for a sore surprise. Take some actual practice tests, don’t just throw high scores out there.

I got a 28 on a practice ACT I didn’t study for freshmen year, so I figured if I put time in to study for the real ACT, I could achieve a high score. Thanks for the advice

You shouldn’t worry about your chances now, you should be concentrating on getting top grades, prepping for ACT/sat and developing your ECs. Once you have actual test scores, then we can try to make a prediction.

Ok thanks so much
