Sorry for anyone looking at this again, I think I posted it in the wrong place earlier

SAT
M-680
CR-690
W-790
SAT II's
Math II-650
Biology-700
U.S. History- haven't gotten score back but I feel I did really well. High 700's

4.0 (UW) ranked 1st in class with like 10 others but I am 1 of 3 who has 4.0 AND is an International Baccalaureate full diploma candidate

7 on Math SL test
6 on Montana University Writing Assessment (highest score but who knows if that means anything to Stanford)
Taking tests this spring in IB history, english, bio, spanish (SL), Psych (SL), and AP calculus (AB test I think)

EC's
-Varsity tennis all four years and went to state two years and was academic all state both those years obviously
-Also i compete in USTA tournaments (non-high school) and am ranked ~2nd in state for doubles depending on year
-Speech and Debate 10th, 11th, and 12th grades and Varsity 11th and 12th and 11th I went to state and our team won (I personally didn't place) but this year I have placed at every single tournament so far (6th, 5th, 1st and 3rd respectively) and I might get Academic All American for Speech by the end of this season
-Student council senior class treasurer (only this year unfortunately)
-Skiing (for enjoyment but big time commitment)
-Community service a little under 200 hours probably but I am co-writing a biography on a distinguished member of my community
-Also I am in National Honors Society

Also I feel I wrote strong essays, I had good letters of recommendation written for me, am male and am from Montana as you could probably tell from Montana system writing assessment

Before you say anything I realize my SAT scores are a lot lower than most of Stanford's applicants so I don't need to hear about my scores. But any other help would be appreciated. Thanks!

I don't know what the above poster is talking about.

You have a shot at Stanford, as there is no visible weakness (except perhaps your ECs or honors/awards). It's probably a reach, as it is for most everyone, but you do definitely have a shot -- just make your essays really great. Good luck. =)

Well most likely you are referring to my SAT scores and possibly lack of a hook. In response to your question is there something I'm not telling you, i guess there is. I don't know if it matters though. For speech I do HOI (humorous Oral Interpretation). So show me somebody with 4.0, IB diploma, who is the best athlete in their sport not only at their school but in the entire county, and who has the creativity to do well in HOI. I know that sounds sorta arrogant but the reason I say it is because I haven't talked to too many kids outside of my school about applications and so obviously I know everyone applying to Stanford has really good credentials but how many kids are that varied in their activities? Also I personally know kids from my school who are attending Stanford with worse SAT scores, worse grades, no IB diploma only a few IB classes, and no athletics

Kyledavid in what ways could my EC's be stronger other than like 1,000,000 volunteer hours like a lot of kids have. Also I know its a reach so don't worry about offending me or something by saying that. I just want to know how much of a reach.

Oh also for tennis and speech, all the years I was varsity I also lettered. So that is all four years of tennis (well I haven't lettered yet this year but I will) and last year for speech and i will for sure letter again this year

The only thing I'm worried about are your SAT grades, as they are quite low compared to the average Stanford kid's. BUt otherwise, you seem set.

PS, I do debate too, and I actually am in the top of my county in Duo. :) But I'm no good at sport like you are. :(

What's conspicuously missing from this chances thread is awards and honors, as well as a consistent track record of high grades on challenging classes. Stanford is going to want to know you took the most challenging courseload possible (or close to that, where applicable) at your high school. You've told us test scores and the IB/AP courses you're taking, but you haven't told us much about how you try to challenge yourself academically.

From what's here, I'd honestly have to say I don't know. It depends on how good of an athlete you really are and how good your essays are - and both of those stats have to be working pretty hard for you to get over the obstacle of your test scores. Consider adding more info to this thread?

yeah, and eatingfood is being a jerk...
Oh, and you should mention if you are in the National Forensics league or something and what degree for debate.

ummm i dont think anyone can chance for stanford, theyre just so damn random about their selection process. i know a violinist who played at carnagie hall with a 4.0 uw and 2400 sat who got REJECTED. so yeah.

Not to sound harsh either, but your involvement in speech is not particularly impressive (coming from someone who also does speech and debate). Other applicants to Stanford will have won awards on the national level, at tournaments like NFL Nationals, NCFL Nationals, Harvard Invitational, the Glenbrooks, etc. In comparison, placing at a local tournament in HI does not give you an advantage. This is just my opinion, though.

yeah stanford is totally random. scarily so. i know a girl who got a 2000 on her SAT1, straight-up 3.0 gpa, her only EC was water polo, and she got ACCEPTED. probably because she went to a prestigious private school in CA.
