Chance Me at top 20 and SLAC - good stats [3.97/36], but ECs might be an issue

Wesleyan sounds amazing and was on the list. But the NPC didn’t show enough funds to go there. My parents have low income but significant savings. Those savings are for their retirement but they are not in a retirement acct so they count toward the family contribution.

My parents sold their business a few years ago. So they have a lot of money saved from that, but they are saving for retirement. Their income is pretty low but not quite low enough for Pell grants. So they technically have the money to cover the full EFC of about $20k but they will prob ask me to pay them back when I get a job since it’s their retirement. It’s not in retirement accts because they can only contribute a certain amt per year.

Awesome! Thanks!!

For some, I will get auto merit like UAH and UTDallas. For the others like UMD and UNew Mexico, I will not attend if I don’t get a scholarship.

UAH, UTD and UNM you will get money. UMD - you won’t know until you apply. The odds aren’t for you but you have great stats. I believe the most OOS is $12,500 but someone may correct me. There is also the full ride Banneker Key - but obviously a tough get.

You don’t know until you try as they say - but there are other schools, not knowing your budget, that are reasonable - like an FSU possibly, with the OOS waiver you’d get - low 20s.

You’ll have options for sure. It sort of depends on your budget.

The other thing you need to look at is all your credits. Which schools will take them all? I’m guessing some on your list won’t take many - but that’s something to look into.

If you decide to apply to University of Maryland, be sure to do so early action. They fill about 75% of their incoming class in the early round.

That advice goes to all schools though. If the school offers EA, apply EA.

Agree…but very important for a school like UMD which fills its class mostly in the ED round.
