I’m not very familiar with admissions statistics about more of these elite school, but it seems as though you have a strong profile and will be considered as a serious applicant at all of the schools you applied to. I think you’re work on Parkinson’s Disease will be a great hook. I also did Parkinson’s Disease research actually. I hope you post what schools you end up being accepted to and I know you will do great where ever you end up.

@desperateplea Thanks a lot, hopefully things go as well as you’re predicting.

Not that I know much, considering I’m a Junior in high school, but you chanced me so I’ll do my best to chance you back based on my limited knowledge. Btw, your application ridiculously strong.

UC Berkeley - Accept
UCLA - Accept
Wash U - Accept
Georgia Tech - Accept
Columbia - Accept/Waitlist
Harvey Mudd - I do not have a feel for this one
Cornell - Accept
Carnegie Mellon - Accept
JHU - Accept
Princeton - Waitlist/Reject
Stanford - Reject

@hawkfank2 Thanks! Any specific weaknesses you see? What would you guess my chances are at some of the most competitive places on my list?

There are no extremely apparent weaknesses that I can directly see. However, compared to the rest of your application, your UW GPA could be a slight bottleneck at elite universities such as Stanford. But, your extracurriculars are extremely strong and you take many leadership positions. I’m not too educated on how legacies work, but I’m assuming this will help you out a lot at Cornell. The only reason that I say reject/waitlist for the most competitive colleges on your list is because there are a ton of extremely qualified applicants that I have heard of that have been rejected from universities, especially Stanford.

But, you may be one of the most qualified applicants that I have ever seen, due to the extracurriculars and rigorous course load that you have to back up your out-of-this-world test scores. I think that you have a fantastic chance at every college on your list, but some of them can be a complete toss up. Either way, I have no doubt you will get into many of the schools on your list, if not close to all. Good look in all of your future endeavors, I’m sure that you will be extremely successful due to your obvious work ethic.

@hawkfank2 Yeah, the UW GPA is definitely something I’m kind of worried about, most of the kids from my school who get into these places have marginally lower test scores than I do (i.e. 1550-1560) and higher GPAs, a la 3.85-3.9. Do you think my ECs could give me enough of a boost to overcome that GPA gap? I think all the most competitive places cut freshman year for GPA, so I would have a 3.8 UW.

I think that your ECs will give you enough of a boost to get over the admissions hump at most of the schools on your list. It’s not like your GPA is so low that it will cause your app to never land in the hands of an admissions officer. I think that all it would take is a completely holistic review for the officer to see that you are the right candidate for their university. From what I’ve read, colleges want students who have set themselves up for future success, both at the school and in life. You fit that qualification. So, I think you are in good shape either way, but its impossible to know for sure…until you get the responses from the colleges themselves.

@hawkfank2 alright, thanks a lot for responding.

-UC Berkeley: Accepted
-UCLA: Accepted
-Washington University in St. Louis: Accepted
-Georgia Tech: Accepted
-Columbia University: Waitlist
-Harvey Mudd College: Rejected
-Cornell University (5 legacies, parents, grandparents, great grandparents): Accepted
-Carnegie Mellon University (Applied to school of CS, I know it’s ridiculous): Accepted
-Johns Hopkins University (Applied to BME Program, I know it’s ridiculously hard but they also consider you for the general school if you don’t make BME): Reject BME, Accept regular
-USC: Accepted
-Princeton University (2 legacies, grandfather is still very very connected with the school (was an interviewer)): Waitlist
-Stanford University: Rejected

Overall, I think you’re a really solid applicant, and these decisions could go either way, but I think your GPA is going to bring you down at some of the top places. Good luck.

You seem like you have a very strong application but so many of these schools are so competitive that it ends up being a crapshoot. My predictions:

UC Berkeley- Accept
UCLA- Accept
Washington University in St. Louis- Accept
Georgia Tech- Accept
Columbia University- Waitlist/reject
Harvey Mudd College-
Cornell University (5 legacies, parents, grandparents, great grandparents)- Accept
Carnegie Mellon University (Applied to school of CS, I know it’s ridiculous)- Reject
Johns Hopkins University (Applied to BME Program, I know it’s ridiculously hard but they also consider you for the general school if you don’t make BME)- Reject BME, accept/waitlist general
USC- Accept
Princeton University (2 legacies, grandfather is still very very connected with the school (was an interviewer))- Waitlist
Stanford University- Reject

Good luck!! Chance me back? http://talk.qa.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1967907-chance-me.html#latest

You have great ECs & test scores; congrats!! I think you have a good chance for UCB, UCLA, WashU, Georgia Tech,
and USC, as well as Cornell and Princeton because of your legacy status. Harvey Mudd, Carnegie Mellon, and Johns Hopkins may be mid-low reaches for you (more so if the programs you’re applying for are competitive), and Columbia and Stanford are solid reaches for almost anyone. Good luck!!

@politicsdancegal Thanks for chancing, hopefully the crapshoot goes my way. Chanced you back.

@grandlv Chanced you back, thanks.

did u get letters of acceptances yet?

@kjake2000 Not yet, they’ll start around the end of next week. I should have all of them by april.

Congratz on Michigan! Let me know if you have any specific questions about the school.

@yikesyikesyikes Thanks a lot, It’s nice to be in somewhere great already going into all the other decisions.

-UC Berkeley: reject
-UCLA: accept
-Washington University in St. Louis: accept
-Georgia Tech: accept
-Columbia University: reject
-Harvey Mudd College: accept
-Cornell University: accept
-Carnegie Mellon University: reject
-Johns Hopkins University: accept
-USC: accept
-Princeton University: waitlist (?) honestly no one really knows
-Stanford University: reject

Everything seems great, but I think the weakest part of your application is your GPA, which still will probably be overlooked by your course rigor and competitive high school. Other than that it’s really really good!
