Why aren’t you considering applying to Amherst, Williams and Pomona?

Amherst and Williams, from what I’ve heard and read, are more on the conservative side, and, besides, I would be far from a shoe in for either of those schools, as far as I’m aware. Pomona is too far from home for me.
Can you chance me at the schools I’ve chosen?

You looks great! The one thing is, you’re not in the top 10%. That is definitely going to hurt you.

Of the more competitive schools on this list (Middlebury, Swarthmore, Wellesley, Wesleyan), I’d say high match-low reach.

Yale and Brown are a mega reach, but it’s worth a shot. If you don’t have a shot, who does!?

The others, I honestly don’t know too well. You should get into Ithaca, Connecticut, and Brandeis.

I don’t know much about Skidmore, Villanova, Smith, or MH.

Yeah, I am concerned about my rank, but it is what it is. I’m mostly worried that colleges will think it means I cannot do the work at their school, but honestly the only thing that brings my average down is little homework dittos that are due at irregular intervals and are so unimportant that I forget about them, but of course they add up. College focuses more on bigger projects and tests, which I never turn in late and always do very well on. Will they forgive my grades? I got one C last year…
.
Glad to hear your thoughts! I’m considering applying to Wesleyan ED, so maybe that will help me get in. Yale and Brown I know are far reaches, but hey, it doesn’t hurt to try.

Thanks noel597!

What is your unweighted GPA? Weighted really means nothing in college applications, since each school will “weight” differently according to their own formula.

And all of these schools will be very familiar with IB. We went to admissions events at Wellesley, Smith, Skidmore and Mount Holyoke and they all commented how much they like seeing kids who’ve been successful in IB. In prepares you for college much better than AP, and the AdComs know it. So if you’re getting mostly As with an occasional B or even a C in HL IB classes, they will like that.

I’m totally guessing here -and a lot would hinge on your essays and letters of recommendation, and whether you have a strong first semester senior year- but here is my GUESS:

*Lottery *
Yale
Brown

*Reach *
Middlebury
Wellesley college
Wesleyan university

*Between match and reach… what’s that, a high match or a low reach? *
Smith college
Mount Holyoke
Skidmore

*Match *
Connecticut college

*IDK *
Tufts
Swarthmore
Villanova
Ithaca
Brandeis

Ithaca is definitely a safety for you academically, but if you are looking to pursue musical theater as you stated, it may be a good choice.

My unweighted GPA is a 92, sorry I forgot to mention that. Wait you really think Smith, Holyoke, and Skidmore are high matches for me? Connecticut College is actually more selective than all of them, and as far as I was aware they were actually low matches.

OK, your unweighted GPA was higher than I assumed. I’ll amend those three to matches. But like I said, this is totally a guess (as is anyone’s opinion here) based on my own research of these schools and my family’s experience… it’s a nice selection of schools- good luck :)

Thank you very much :)
