Chance me at top privates and big 3 state schools

Hello, I'm an international student who wants to be chanced at these schools: Rice(my all-time favorite), Northwestern, Cornell, Georgetown, CMU and UC Berkeley, UVA, UCLA. I want to major in philosophy.

I'll ED Rice. And here's my stats:

GPA: 3.8 (my school is highly competitive IMO. lol)
SAT: 2130 (CR 700, Math: 730, WR: 700(Essay 10))
SAT2: US History 720, Chemistry: 750
Ethnicity: Caucasian
Gender: Female
ECs: I hate this part of the application. Honestly, I'm weak at this part compared to others who got international super-difficult physics contest champion blahblah
School Swimming Team Captain
Orchestra Conductor
Volunteer Works

I know those schools I listed above, even those big state schools, have about 10~20% admission rate. That worries me a lot. Very few from my high school are accepted by those schools each year. Thank you in advance.

Oh, BTW, I'm not an Australian, if you ask :)

no. is 3.8 uw? if so maybe ucla

if you are interested in philosophy then there are other schools you have not listed that would fit you. Pittsburgh, university of michigan being two of them.also keep in mind that with philosophy you can oftentimes get a better education in it at a small school where teachers are more involved with students then a place like UCLA. I know I went to western michigan and took some philo classes(all lecture) then took philo class at a CC and had a much much better time and learned more.sometimes the teaching is even better(i was taught at my community college my a professor who was on the LSA honor board at UofM but stopped teaching university level because to quote him “i don’t like grading ss #”)

You should be highly competitive in all those schools.

If you’re full pay you should have a shot at all, especially if you’re from a country not sending a lot of applicants. Results from your own school should tell you more than anyone here can.

What country are you from? Int’l have it hard, and even so Rice will be difficult. Depending on how much FA you need. If you were a ED Rice applicant from the states with those stats, I would still say Rice would be a low reach.

“If you’re full pay you should have a shot at all, especially if you’re from a country not sending a lot of applicants. Results from your own school should tell you more than anyone here can.”

She already said that very few students are admitted to those schools every year.

OP, you probably have a shot at UVa. Kindly check out Michigan as well. It has a strong philo program and it’s a world-class university with superb school facilities.

About 9 years ago, I applied to Berkeley, Rice, UPenn, Duke, Columbia, Bowdoin, Mudd, MIT along with some unknown liberal arts colleges. I was turned down at Berkeley and MIT. The admit rate at Berkeley during that time was something like 9%. Last year, Berkeley’s admit rate for international students jumped to 19% or something, so things may have changed a bit now. I would say: give Berkeley a try. If you get into Berkeley, pack your thing and go. It’s the best school in your list and it has a top 5 or so philo program in the world.
