Plan to write common app essay on the difficulties of life following the death of my mother to breast cancer.

You’re obviously a good student with interesting ECs. But your test scores are only so-so. It’s hard to say. Applying ED is, of course, the single best way of demonstrating your interest.
Good luck!

My problem with these “chance me” threads is that I rarely get an idea of why the poster wants Tufts. Your numbers are certainly in the range, but the Tufts application goes so far beyond the numbers that I suggest you start giving those essays a lot of thought, time, and care. The Common App essay is very important (and my sincere condolences on the loss of your mother) but just make sure it and all the essays say something about you that the reader will not find anywhere else in your file. If your guidance counselor or a teacher is going to address how you dealt with your mother’s death, then maybe reconsider. I think the best essays focus not on a big subject but on a moment in time. And be real. To the best of your ability, write from your heart in a way that shows the reader why you belong at Tufts and what you will bring to the university’s community. Good luck.
