I visited Tufts in May of last year and have been head over heels in love with it since then. It’s pretty much all I talk about now, (and yes, I have heard more than my fair share of ‘don’t pull all your eggs in one basket’). Everything I’ve learned about the school has just made me want to go there more. It’s far and away the only school I am 100% excited about and in love with. The only problem is that I’m worried about my stats :\
I also applied ED.
STATS:
High School GPA- UW:3.78 W:3.996 (really low, I know. I got too many B’s freshman year, though sophomore and junior I had pretty much straight A’s with the exception of 1 B per year, which was in an honors or AP… Taking mostly Honors classes and AP’s when available)
Rank is N/A
SAT I: 2150, M:630 R:800 W:720 (superscored)
SAT II: USH: 640 (I took Math 1 and 2, as well as Literature this month… I’ll be getting the scores back this Tuesday.)
AP’s: (only took a few because my school only really lets you take them senior year, with the exception of APUSH.
Junior Year: APUSH - 5
Senior Year Schedule with first MP grades:
AP Literature: A-
AP World History: B+
AP European History: A
Honors Latin 4: A
Choir 4: A
Calculus: B
Gym: A- (I honestly don’t know why
For scheduling purposes, I also had to take a personal finance class over the summer. I got an A in it, though it doesn’t count towards my GPA.
EC’S:
-Head Stage Manager for the Musical (leadership position) (9,10,11,12)
-Head Stage Manager for Drama Club (leadership) (9,10,11,12)
-Chief Fiction Editor of Literary Magazine (9,10,11,12)
-Backstage Tech Hand at a local theater company (volunteering with young children) (11,12)
-National Novel Writing Month (write 50k words to complete your own novel in month of November) (10,11)
-Latin Club (11,12)
-Gay-Straight Alliance (9)
-WORK: I was a social media manager intern at an international kitchen supplies company based in Philly over the summer. It was a full-time job that I worked for four weeks.
HONORS/AWARDS
-National Honors Society (11, 12)
-National Latin Exam (scored Summa Cum Laudae) (9,10,11,2)
-Honor Roll (this probably doesn’t mean anything, but) (9,10,11,12)
TEACHER RECS: pretty good I would say.
GUIDANCE REC: eh. not sure he knows me that well.
ESSAYS
Multiple people have said it was “really, really, really good”, and I trust them, so. I think it definitely shows my passion for the topic I was writing about and it definitely is a quirky and kind of unconventional topic (not in a bad way, it’s just something that I don’t think many people are going to be writing about). I’m a good writer so no problems there, I don’t think. A little worried about the topic choice, but it’s already submitted.
SUPPLEMENTS
They’re really good, I think. I’m very proud of them.
RANDOM STUFF
-I’ve taught myself 4 instruments (ukulele, piano, guitar, and mandolin)
-my school is a pretty well-respected school in my state that Tufts, judging by their history of accepting kids from here, tends to like (5 kids got in last year and they all went). As far as I know, I’m the only kid in my grade applying ED.
-a Tufts graduate offered to write me a letter of support (not sure how much this will help??)
To be honest, I spend way too much time reading about Tufts students and I honestly can’t believe how much in common I have with them. The fact that they all want to learn for the sake of learning rather than the result is AMAZING to me, and the emphasis that Tufts puts on helping other people just to help them is so amazing. I’m so genuinely in love with this school, and I think my essays really show that. I’m just afraid that my grades are too low to even be given a second glance
So, chance me?
