For UMich, your UW GPA of 3.5 is really under their range. UMich really cares about that GPA, and they have rejected people with 2250+ on the SAT who had a <3.5 UW GPA. Another thing working against you is your lack of APs. You're an international student, so UMich won't really understand how difficult your HS curriculum is in Korea. Your SAT of 2000 is good, but not great. However, UMich will probably be forgiving about your CR - though under the 25th percentile - and WR scores, since you're not a native English speaker, so you do have an excuse. One way to work around this (actually I think this is required for int'l students) is to take the TOEFL exam. This exam was created especially for non-native English speakers. UMich does not require SAT Subjects, but they will take a look at them. Your Math Level 2 score of 690 is okay, but it does put you in the 60-th percentile. You definitely need to retake Chem, but you obviously bombed the test really badly ... that score puts you in the 20th percentile. Your AP scores are passing, but even if you self-studied for them, I don't think UMich offers credit for a 3.

Overall, you should look for a safety in addition to the schools you have listed ... all of those schools are highly respected in the US. I recommend adding Mich State U to your list, because there is a good chance UMich will reject you with your UW GPA. That way, you can do a year or two at MSU before you transfer into UMich. You'll still earn a UMich degree that way. In addition, you'll save alot of money, because out-of-state tuition at UMich is almost $40,000 per year, $20,000 more than MSU.

Chances:
UMich: Reach with GPA
NYU: Reach with GPA
UCLA: Reach with GPA
Carnegie Mellon: Reach with GPA + SAT
Emory: Reach with GPA + SAT
Rice: Far reach with GPA + SAT

Good luck! One way you can help your apps is to write a better essay.

What is your UMich GPA? (Only 10th and 11th grades). It makes a difference.

It's going to be very hard with your GPA, but you will NOT be put at a disadvantage because of your lack of APs. They don't punish you because of your school's course selection.

You can try retaking the SAT, or even taking the ACT.

Actually I live in Canada..
and I'm Canadian
but will re a US resident in couple weeks definitely before I write the application. I know it wont help that much though...
anyways thanks alot
