If you don’t mind would you please let me know what you believe my chances at UC Berkeley are?
I’m trying to major bioengineering.
Unweighted GPA: 3.98 Weighted: 4.7
8 APs in sophomore/junior year: Calc AB (3) Calc BC (3) Psych (5) Chem (4) Bio (4) US history (5) Euro (5) English Lang (3)
Senior year classes: Calc D/intro to differential equations (dual enrollment), English 101/103 (dual enrollment), AP Econ, Ap physics 1, AP environmental, Architectural design.

Sat 2: bio 730 Math2 600 (I know its bad. Family emergency that week hopefully the rest of my app makes up for it.)
ECs: team captain in Science Olympiad, President/founder of Hospice Club (organizes fund raisers for Hospice organizations, Basketball, work in a restaurant (30 hours a week), CSF, Solar boat club (only freshmen year)
Class rank: 1/674.
Chances are good.
Don’t stress too much. What’s done is done, so just hope for the best. Engineering is very competitive though, so hopefully you have good essays.
Thanks! I think my essays are pretty solid. Do you think my 600 on Math 2 will bring me down that much? I was hoping that getting all through calculus in high school would off set it a little bit but I’m not sure.
SAT II’s are not required by Berkeley, so if you do send them your scores, they would only consider your scores if they would have a positive impact on your decision, otherwise they remain neutral
Ok thanks! And I heard a rumor that Berkeley and UCLA share application lists and try to make it so that most qualified applicants get into one or the other, making it a harder to get into both. Is there any merit to this rumor? Because I also applied to UCLA and I don’t want that to hurt my chances at either school.
^ Probably not true, but my friend has told me that as well. I got in Berkeley and not UCLA, but know a few people who got into both.
Ok that’s what I thought but I wasn’t sure. Thanks!
If you are applying for engineering, SAT II are highly recommended to be competitive (but not required). It hard to say if you’ll get in as I’ve seen applicants with the same or better stats get rejected. Remember, Engineering apps go through the Engineering dept which admits at a lower rate than regular applications. And it is not true that Cal & UCLA team up and divide top applicants.
Thanks and yeah I know. Last I checked the engineering admit rate was only 9.7%. I got into UCSD though for Biomedical engineering so I’m hoping that’s a good sign but I have no idea. Only 10 more days and I’m freaking out.
Hi ! Sorry it’s off topic but I can’t find any post about this, I was wondering if anyone knows how hard it is to get into UC Berkeley under Film studies, I am a transfer student ! Thanks !
@kikessgun i saw someone else post that only tens of people get into that major. I think it’s less than 30
Seems to be a match for you. Chance me? http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/university-california-berkeley/1748272-chance-me.html#latest
@ucalumni I’m not trying to say I don’t believe you but how do you know that Berkeley and Ucla don’t share their lists.
@jtrain5976 I’m not giving specific details but my brother works for UCLA and they don’t share lists.
Ok thanks!
