Not sure what you mean about Good Hooks into social Justice. Involvement in social justice via EC’s, awards etc… are not Hooks but would make for interesting PIQ topics.

UC’s are very unpredictable so I would start your college list by identifying 2 Very Likely/Safety schools. None of the UC’s you have listed would fall into that category unless UC Merced would be an acceptable option.

Spend time on your Personal Insight essays highlighting your passion for social justice and make sure to elaborate on your EC’s, awards and activities. Best of luck and apply widely.

Already into UCM, UCR not UCD

I’m confused by the major choice. How did you write about your academic interest in your PIQs if you chose vastly different majors at each place?

There are 8 PIQ. Applicants are not required to answer PIQ #6. Even if they do, the question is “Think about an academic subject that inspires you. Describe how you have furthered this interest inside and/or outside of the classroom.” Many students do not write about their intended major.

Is this your daughter whom has already been admitted to UCM and UCR but waitlisted at UCD?
