applying in state EA to LSA, legacy from my grandpa, and my brother is applying as a transfer from IU this year (don’t know if that factors in?)
34 ACT
3.85 uw gpa (9th-11th grade with 5 APs, I’m taking 4 more my senior year so 9 total)
varsity field hockey and track 4 years
3 years vice prez, co-founder, and teacher: coding club
2 summers of kode with klossy
NHS
built by girls WAVE mentorship program 2 years
some volunteer stuff
2 years of the same summer job at a café
several art awards, painted a mural for my school
2 years national honorable mention for le grand concours french exam
uhh idk what else, my essays are about how my art evolved and being a woman in stem and teaching coding classes, one of my rec letters is from my ap chem teacher (I got a b in his class which is my worst grade other than a b in alg 2), and a rec letter from my field hockey coach who was a captain on Umich’s field hockey team when they won nationals in the early 2000s
Your stats are pretty competitive, and your essay topics also seem great! If you do a good job linking your extracurricular activity of your coding club to your personal values / personalities in your essay, I’d say your chance is pretty good.
@Teedub my common app essay is about my art, my community essay is about being a woman in stem using kode with klossy as an anecdote, and my activities essay is about how I love teaching classes at coding club and I want to continue that through the wolverine soft game design team. my why Michigan is shaky, it’s about how in lsa I can get a major in comp sci and a minor in art and design and connecting everything I love
@hgrobel I think your essay topics are strong. Even your why Michigan essay seems to have a good topic of understanding why LSA. LSA seems to promote that diverse in academics/interdisciplinary, so talking about your comp sci + art/design passion will work well!
