Hello, as you may have seen in other posts it’s another chance post. My profile is alright I guess, I am currently 18 percent, 1130 on my SAT, 620 on math and 510 on English. Main extracurricular is football. One year lettered, constant all 4 years following by academic all district at a 6-A district. Wrote a lot about my personal life in my essays as having an PTSD affected childhood by my veteran father (made it personal that’s my point). I have taken AP classes such as government, chemistry and way more. I am a Texas resident and I applied for chemical engineering, I understand that this major may seem like a stretch but I will change if the universities ask me to. Thanks a lot for reading and taking your time to help me! Any more questions ask away!
Chemical engineering is a very competitive major. Is there a particular reason as to why you are applying to ChemE? I assume that you like chemistry?
Anyway, being in state for UT is definitely a plus. However, 1130 on the SAT (I assume new SAT) is on the low side for ChemE for schools like A&M. What’s your GPA? How many AP’s have you taken/what are your scores for those? What about SAT II’s? Class rank?
Just a tip for your essays: focus on yourself and your experiences/growth. If you overemphasize your father, you miss a chance of showing how great an applicant YOU are.
BTW, universities can’t “ask” you to change your major. Doing a major is your own decision, as long as you are accepted into the appropriate school/college/department for chemical engineering, or pass the GPA requirements when you declare your major. You can do whatever major you choose as long as you get accepted/meet the requirements. Nobody can ask you to change your major. Changing your major is your own choice. Follow your passions or list “undecided” if you are undecided.
Also, because of Affirmative action, your income bracket, race, and gender play a role in admissions too.
Are you considering athletic recruitment?
Thanks a lot for the response, it’s very helpful. I have a 3.25 UW and a 3.66 W. I am currently 120/651 which rounds me roughly on 18 percent. I say about the major change because I recently went to a campus visit to UT and the guide was explaining about her admissions process in which she wasn’t accepted to your major but was to the school. She hopped onto different ones until she landed the one she liked. I do indeed like chemistry and I truly understand it’s a highly competitive major.
I tried to do as much rigoues course as My schedule allowed me. Other than those APs I took honors (pre-AP) on a lot of my lower classman courses. I am not considering athletic recuirtment. I have a lot of injuries (dislocated shoulder like 4 times lol) and wouldn’t want to have a greater pain in the future.

UT would be a reach for you even you are in state. Most seats are filled By auto admission and whatever left are highly competitive. Your stat is below their admission mid 50 range making it more difficult.
What is my weakest aspect? My SAT?

@billcsho What is my weakest aspect? My SAT? Also what do you think about A&M?
What UT’s did you apply to? Sorry, I’m not too familiar with the UT system. But in general for all colleges, you have 1 or 2 years to decide what you want to major in. College is much more free than HS, in that you can take whatever classes you want, as long as they fit into your schedule (for the most part). However, if you want to graduate with a degree (of your choice), there are specific course credits you need to fulfill. So it’s generally recommended that you go in knowing that you want to major in (at least a general idea).
Anyway, you have a decent ranking and AP Courseload. I would definitely say that your SAT score is probably ur weakest aspect (assuming u had great teacher rec letters and u wrote great essays). Im going to take a guess and say that your SAT percentile was around 73 percent? Texas A&M is a reach for you in my opinion.
@IsoDidact Thanks so much for your response. Yes I truly know that my SAT is low. I wish I would had been more college focused my high school years. UT at Austin. A&M was my first choice but visiting Austin, I fell in love with the atmosphere and vibe. But at first applying I kinda knew it was a great stretch. I mean if it helps I gave them 3 teac recs, resume, and personals essays :(( You believe I have a solid chance at A&M?
