I'm currently a freshman at Umass Amherst first semester and I'm looking to apply for transfer after my 1st semester of sophomore year. Currently, the first semester, I have a 4.0 gpa and plan to have around a 3.85ish gpa by the time I transfer. My extra-curricular are limited and nothing special to talk about. I've done a few volunteer and internships in high school and plan on getting another one this upcoming summer.

What are my chances of getting into Vanderbilt, NYU, UVa, BC (and possibly the engineering school at Columbia which, I heard, wasn't that hard to get into..though I know it will still be a huge huge huge reach). Also, would a 3.9 gpa help my chances a lot more or not really? Thanks.

*ps- I plan on majoring in business

I’m new here, but this doesn’t seem like nearly enough info to chance you.

like ec and stuff?

well theres not much to talk about in college since its my first semester but:

in high school:
- internship at hospital for 1 summer
- worked at restaurant for a few years
- jv volleyball for 2 years in high school

and joined a few clubs in college.

anything else?

wait really? i thought vandy was harder to get into than bc

A 3.8-3.9 GPA qualifies you to get into those schools as a transfer. Columbia might be harder, as will NYU if you’re applying to Stern. Since you’re only a freshman your high school grades/scores might have some weight. Good luck

thanks guys.

nyyankees2012: yeah but i plan on apply my 2nd semester of next year (sophomore year) so they’ll probably see 3-4 semesters of my grades. since i didnt do so well in high school, im hoping they dont put as much weight on my high school gpa and stuff.
