I think all the answers you received from your Harvard chance thread is equally applicable here.

If, as you indicated elsewhere, Yale is your first choice, apply SCEA there.

I would never recommend that anyone with your stats apply ED to a school that isn’t their first choice, presumably for the additional bump that it gives.

Good luck.

@ThinkOn @IxnayBob The reason I’m so hesitant about any SCEA is because our school has a stronger relationship with Penn and Chicago. We’ve consistently failed to have students admitted to HYPSM. You all don’t believe this would be a reason to ED?

@wolfie1010, I think that ED is appropriate when you have a clear-cut first choice and are not nervous about FA. I’m a bit dogmatic about that.

My wife, some 40+ years ago, applied ED to Vassar. She was accepted, and every now and then wonders aloud how things might have been different if she had applied to Bowdoin. Don’t set yourself up for coulda, shoulda, woulda.

Conversely, you might not get accepted to Yale SCEA, and wonder if you should have applied ED to Penn. In that case, I’d remind you that Penn and Yale are very different schools, and I doubt that you’d fit equally well at both. DS’s school had a stronger relationship to Penn than Yale (8% of DS’s graduating class matriculated at Penn, 3% at Yale), but you should apply early to your first choice.

Early should be about preference, not likelihood. Just my 2 cents.
