Chance me: Barnard/NYU/Tufts/BU/UC schools/USC?

Hi I’m a junior in high school.
Asian American US citizen (international student)

GPA (unweighted)
(at my school we don’t have A+
A is a 4.0, A- is a 3.7, B+ 3.3, B is 3)
My UW GPA: 3.4 (freshmen year yikes), 3.85 (sophomore), 3.6? (junior year)

AP Tests :
Freshmen: not allowed
Sophomore:AP Chinese (5), AP Japanese (4)
Junior: AP Psychology (taking this year - prob 5), AP Chemistry (taking this year - prob 4 or 5)
Senior (plan): AP Calc or Stats, AP Bio, AP Environmental Science (?) 3 APs is the max we can take in a year

ACT: haven’t taken it yet but mock is 29 (studying right now, goal is to get higher
SAT: Chinese (790), planning to take Math 2 and Chemistry at the end of junior year

Clubs/Extracurricular activities:

  • Varsity Cross Country (all 4 years probably captain next year), I also do races to fundraise for different organizations
  • Track (all 4 years)
  • Leader of an Animal Protection Club (we organize our own events, fundraise a lot. I was a member in freshmen year, and I am the leader of the club from sophomore-senior year)
  • Environmental Club (4 years)
  • Science Club (4 years)
  • NHS (junior-senior)
  • Leader of a club that goes to an elderly home to teach technology
  • Speak 4 language (don’t think it’ll help much)

My stats aren’t that high and i don’t have too many ECs, but im applying to college next year, so any rec will be good

Barnard/NYU/Tufts/BU/UC schools/USC: I know all these schools are reach schools for me, but it’d be great if you can chance me and see how far of a reach it is, thank you!!!

  1. UC’s only use 10-11th grades for the a-g course requirements in their GPA calculation and do not consider +/-. They give extra honors points for AP/IB or DE courses taken 10-11th with a cap of 8 semesters (capped weighted UC GPA) or unlimited honors points for the AP/IB or DE courses taken 10-11th (fully weighted UC GPA).

Here is the UC GPA calculator to help calculate your UC GPA’s at end of Junior year: https://rogerhub.com/gpa-calculator-uc/

Here is the 25th-75th percentile ACT scores for the UC’s. To be competitive you want around a 4.0 UC capped weighted GPA or higher along with an ACT of at or above the 50th percentile for the best chances.

Even with a 4.2+ UC Capped Weighted GPA, it still makes the top UC’s (UCLA/UCB) tough admits:
Freshman admit rates for UC GPA of 4.20 or above:

UCB: 42%
UCLA: 54%
UCSD: 87%
UCSB: 85%
UCD: 91%
UCI: 94%
UCSC: 95%
UCR/UCM: 98%

25th - 75th percentiles for ACT:
UCB: 30-34
UCLA: 30-34
UCSD: 29-34
UCSB: 28-33
UCD: 26-32
UCI: 26-32
UCSC: 26-31
UCR: 23-30
UCM: 20-27

Be aware that the UC’s have placed a cap on OOS/International admits and also that you will be full pay at around $60K/year.

Come back next summer and post all your updated stats. Best of luck.

Thank you so much!
