my family income is 42,000 and our EFC is about 800 OR 900 I believe. Single parent family

Honestly your act scores are way to low, you need atleast a 28.

It is a big reach. Sorry. I guess its worth a shot good luck! Chance me back please!

Barnard College is quite difficult to get into. Our valedictorian last year was accepted into it. Is your high school considered one of the best? If not, your class rank will be an issue seeing as 75% of their accepted students are in the top tenth percentile. The majority also have incredible GPAs. Your extracuriculars and essay have to be unbelievable if you want a decent shot. EC-wise I think your pretty good but I couldn’t tell you about your essay. Make sure you have as many people read it (when a college representative came to our school from a school I wasn’t incredibly interested in I made them read my essay and ask for their input.) Grade-wise i feel like you want to get the ACT up, at least in two relevant sections (do really well on english/reading or science/math), although I have only taken the SATs so I can’t really judge ACTs very well.

I’d say you have to make yourself stand out with your essays. Good luck!

I’m guessing Barnard doesn’t see a lot of applicants from TN. Do your best to raise your scores and write a thoughtful application. It’s a reach, but not impossible.

Thanks, I appreciate all of the comments. I know it’s a reach-- I really don’t do well with standardized test scores and I’ve really tried and studied and taken it over and over again. It’s just not my thing. And yes I am getting a lot of feedback right now and help with my essay and I think it’s very strong. But yes—one more time with ACT and thank god they superscore (wait might be confusing that for Wes) because I do much better with English and Reading.
AND YES, my high school is very difficult and is considered the best public school in the region–very competitive and very hard to stand out/get my rank up.
