Chance me: BC, BU, NYU, Cornell

Currently at St. John's University, Queens

Applying for transfer to:
NYU - Gallatin
Cornell - ILR
Columbia - Fu Foundation
BC+BU = closest thing to finance

-Took Accounting, Bio, Micro, Macro, Calc, Management

33/36 ACT without writing - just took it, I know writing is required.

Beta Alpha Psi National Accounting Honors Society - President
Mock Trial

Stellar Dean Rec. Top in career.
Average to good essays.

HS Stats:
3.0/4.0 on the dot (ouch)
680M 610R 600W - SAT I (ouch)
590Bio 600MIC - SAT II (ouch ouch)

Chances? Thanks!

Edit:
-Gallatin: no more curriculum restraints, I can study what I what, when I want.
Cornell - ILR and not AEM because I browsed their course catalogue and student body, I could go into more detail but I like the ILR program better even though I heard it is 10x more rigorous.
-Columbia - Fu Foundation and not Economics because Economics has a ridiculously low acceptance rate, and they have a specific program I'm especially interested in.
BC+BU, I haven't looked into it but BC has a solid business program from what I've read, BU is just as good.

Actually act without is ok at BU and NYU as well since you are a transfer. i don't know about the others. Also NYU will not consider any scores from college and they take a strong stance on it.

I'd say Gallatin is a definite go. BU seems an obvious go. I don't know about the others unfortunately :S

Thanks ianjt. As much as I'd love to believe Gallatin is a definite, I've seen competitive applicants get rejected, but hopefully it's a go. I appreciate the info morgoth, but I'm going to send all of my scores everywhere; it can't hurt.

Any other thoughts?

Jay, I am also applying to Gallatin. Your stats are slightly better than mine:

College - Boise State Honors
GPA - 3.81 over 31 credits
Currently taking 2 honors, 2 upper division classes and 1 upper division internship.

Ec's: BSU Writing Center Tutor, Honors College, SWIMBA trail reports, work experience.

Awards: Dean's list.

HS: 3.0 GPA, 1400/2400 SAT (yeah, tell me about it).

I know, validated by Gallatin's website, that they like strong writers. Make sure when writing your last short answer question, that you focus on why Gallatin's unique methods will help you--answering this way is mentioned as a requirement on the site.

Also, I have seen folks with 3.4 college gpa's accepted into Gallatin. I don't think they can make a decision solely on your academics. They are after particular people, not someone who misses the point. I think that a lot of over-qualified students apply and are rejected because they don't make point of how they will work as a Gallatin student.

Lastly, the website mentions that the students who are applying are invited to submit a personal statement explaining why Gallatin will work for them. This, I think, is in addition to the essay and short answer questions. Have a look here, under Gallatin if you like: http://admissions.nyu.edu/applying_for_admission/index.php?category=transfer&page=special_program_requirements

Anyways, good luck to you!

Wow ianjt, that was very informative. I already knew about the heavy role that the application plays with Gallatin students, but you summed up all the extra points very nicely.

It'd be fun to meet up if we both got in 1 year from now. Good luck man.

Thoughts on my odds @ Boston College and Columbia?
