<p>hey guys im a hispanic junior and im trying to see if i have the stats that could possibly lead up to an acceptance to (Harvard,Cornell, JHU,Columbia...and such)...just evaulate thanks</p>

<p>Stats:
SAT: 2150-2250
SAT IIs: ive only taken math 2- 750...gonna take chem and us history at the end of the school year- Expecting a range on both from 750-800
GPA: 3.8 uw
Rank: don't rank... extremely competitive school in long island,ny</p>

<p>Currently taking 2 AP's/rest honors and will take 5 or so next year (calc ab, macro/micro,physics, english)</p>

<p>All honors classes 11th and 12th , made honor roll all of 10th,11th, and most likely 12</p>

<p>Going to be taking the AMC12 in january or so...im really not sure how im gonna do because i dont really know about the AMC but my school invited me to take the test ...so im expecting to do okay

President of the Astronomy Club ( conducted astronomy night at my school, conduct observing sessions every other week)
Secretary of Model Congress ( competed 2 years at Yale Model Congress, 1 year Harvard, 1 year UPenn.)
4 year member of mathletes
Website club
200-250 hours volunteering at LIJ Medical Center
Currently working as administrative assistant at New Age Skin Research Foundation
Attended Johns Hopkins CTY 9th grade
Attended Cornell University Summer College 10th grade
Going to attend one of the following: Caltech YESS program, Columbia Summer program, or Garcia Research summer program at Polytechnic in New York
Master Guide of Seventh Day Adventist "Pathfinders" organization, kind of like a huge youth organization for my denomination.Master guide is the highest rank you can achieve.</p>

<p>Other Factors:Im pretty sure im gonna get either National Merit Finalist/semifinalist, Parents are both immigrants: dad from Egypt, Mom from Peru. im gonna say extremely humble beginnings but im not exactly sure if thats a factor in admissions.
Hook (if any): Hispanic i guess.? some research stuff as well

School Type: extremely competitive public...last year about the top 10-12% of about 400-500 kids in the graduating class went to ivy league and a couple of other went to places like Stanford, MIT,etc.
Ethnicity: Hispanic/Arabic but im pretty sure saying only hispanic will give me an edge
Gender: m</p>

<p>EDIT: i have a serious upward trend in my high school transcript (grades wise, and class rigor wise)</p>

<p>do you plan on talking about your Arab side in the application? If you do, do you think it will negate your URM status?</p>

<p>you know a-san its strange because in many places i read that north-african (egypt) people are considered caucasian which i guess would kind of take away the advantage?...but then i talked to a senior from my school and he said that since im two ethnicites i should play that up in the app because colleges like multiracial applicants...so im not really sure...i think i might just post a thread about that</p>

<p>if the SAT I's were a little higher (>2250), then I'd say you'd have a better than average chance. Good essays and recs could help alot (especially if they explain the upward trend). I have never heard of an Arab applicant being considered Caucasian, by the way.</p>

<p>Yes, Arabs are considered Caucasian (I'm Arab). I always check "Other", though and specify that I'm Middle-Eastern. From there, they can decide to classify my as they like. To me, I'm Arab, not Caucasian.</p>

<p>About ur school, u take all honors classes. But if there are any IB or AP classes that u haven't taken, that's not good. Take extra AP or IN classes next year. (if available)</p>

<p>so would it be fine for you to just check the hispanic side and just leave out the arab side? But then again, I'm sure you'd like to write your essay incourperating your unique combination. :P </p>

<p>Not sure, I wonder really how AA works. I'm not sure if you are half URM, if you are given the full AA.</p>

<p>hey, i'm from LI too. just wondering, what "competitive" school do you go to? don't tell me its either great neck south, syosset, or jericho.</p>
