Chance Me Before The Actual Decisions Please :)

I wish decisions came out today D: but anyways, I think it would be cool to see what CC'ers think my chances are at making UCLA. I've wanted to go to UCLA since 6th grade, and I have been there countless number of times. Please chance me ! and say either ACCEPTED or REJECTED, any input is welcome :)

I would say my essays were pretty good, my counselor enjoyed reading them ^^ I actually used the third personal statement to talk about the high alt. ballooning, pretty cool project at our school :X

THANKS FOR READING IF YOU GOT THIS FAR! :)

Better chance then me :P

No! Yours is better :p

Since you chanced me, I shall chance you. No, this isn’t moral support. ;D

Looking at your grades, you have a significant chance. The UC system, based on my experience with my admitted/rejected friends/cousins, are dominantly GPA based. (I had a friend at my school with a 3.65 unweighted GPA/2330 SAT who got rejected. Again, competitive school @_@)

Although GPA is the main factor, they do consider other things. Your extracurriculars/involvement is solid, so no worries there. Your test score is very good, above the 75th percentile, so this helps you too.

The MAIN thing that UC’s look at (other than GPA and more than extracurriculars/volunteer work and much more than test scores) is what you wrote on your personal statement.

I know a man who used to work in the Office of Admissions for UC Berkeley and he said that, after GPA, the personal statement was the important deciding factor. They want to get to know the hidden face behind these numbers.

The questions they want to be answered when reading the personal statements are:

1) What kind of person is this?
2) Will this person be a wonderful addition to our school?
3) Are they involved or are they study robots?

If you feel that your personal statements clearly address these questions (the answer to the third question being “involved” and no to study robot), then you are a definite shoe in. Again, a 4.0/2400 SAT person can get rejected if their personal statements don’t address the questions above. Assuming your personal statements did reveal who you were (your counselor liked them), expect that letter soon!

Good luck in your admissions for your other colleges!

I kinda wish I spent more time on my essays now. I mean if I don’t get in, it might be because of that. Or my major choice + the three b’s. I guess it just matters if the admissions office thought my essays were good too xD Thanks for chancing me :)

I would definitely not worry about the three B’s. They understand you took a rigorous courseload. Also keep in mind that they will consider how much time those clubs and sport teams would take. Based on my experience, people on teams like us don’t get home until 6ish or 7. (8 in extreme cases). They will understand you don’t have all that free time to get perfect grades, like some of the people who would get rejected if they spent all their time studying.

Your major is engineering, so that would be pretty competitive. Was it impacted? (I’m guessing no because it’s aerospace, but confirm this).

I do not remember if the application said the major was specifically impacted when I was filling it out (4 moths ago, so long !) but I believe I have read somewhere it is. From what I understand, as an engineering prospective undergrad, I compete against other declared aero eng. and non of the others. So i would guess that means that it would be different every year depending on who applies for which major. I usually get home around 6, but then shower + eating + procrastinating + being tired haha. B+'s stink. But thanks, I’ll try and not worry about them that much d:]-/-|:

Explain why I personally think you have a better shot
