Excellent GPA and test scores, but I feel that your ECs are somewhat lackluster. For Cornell specifically, you really need to make yourself stand out; I’d suggest more leadership positions and heavy involvement in only a few ECs. Sports are great, and its even better that you’ve been doing them for a few years; try and earn a captain position!

Do you mind posting your cumulative high school GPA and class rank (if you can) so we could get a better outlook on your chances?

My cumulative gpa is a 3.7 UW and a 4.0 W
I don’t know my school rank but i know I’m top 10 percent
I have a leadership position at a local homeless shelter
idk if this helps, but I transferred highschools after my sophomore year
Thanks
and are there any colleges not on my list that i should consider

Alright. Based on your UW GPA, I would put Cornell as a reach for now; try to bump that up to a 3.9 or at least a 3.8 next year. Ivies are reaches for everyone, remember that. Your SAT is on point with Cornell, but try and improve the GPA a bit. Save one your ED position for another college.

You have a great chance at most of the colleges on your list, but the biggest thing you should work on are your ECs. Your GPA and SAT scores make you a competitive applicant.

You could mention your activities in the shelter on your essay, and how it affected you and such. Saying you simply have the position is vague, so be specific in what you do in the position, as well as providing an official title (if you have one.)

Be sure to mention you transferred high schools in your application; did that factor have an adverse effect on your grades? In other words, did your performance go down as a result of transferring schools? (new environment, teachers, etc.?)

Here’s what I would put as your chances with what your provided:

Cornell (ED): Reach/High Reach
Boston College: Match
Boston University: High Match
NYU: Low Reach
UC Berkeley: Low Match
UC Irvine: Match
USC: Low Match
UCLA: Match
Minnesota: ???

Which university in Minnesota?

Thanks for the help
