Chance Me: Boston College, Georgetown, UNC

Hey everyone, I applied ED to Duke and was rejected, so now I'm looking into applying RD to UNC, Georgetown, and BC and I'd love to have an idea of my chances.

ACT: 30

Reading: 33
English: 34
Science: 24
Math: 28
Writing: 8

GPA: 4.1 W, 3.7 UW

Senior Schedule: Dual Enrollment Anatomy, AP Government, AP Literature, Pre Calc Honors, Spanish IV Honors, Religion(required), AP Physics

In the past I have also taken AP Art History, AP Literature, and APUSH. I go to a small Catholic school so we don't have as many AP classes as other schools. All the classes I have taken, though, with the exclusion of our required religion courses have been honors courses. We also don't rank, but I know I would be at least in the top 15-20% if I had to guess.

Extracurriculars:

-4 years Girl's Varsity Lacrosse
-Ambassador Club: we are selected by our teachers to help showcase the school at events like Open House
-Mayor's Youth Corps: a service and leadership group under the Mayor; you must go through an application and interview process and only 40 students from the whole city are selected. We participate in many service projects throughout the city and work on developing our leadership skills
-Over 120 hours of community service
-National Honor Society, Beta Club, Rho Kappa, and National English Honor Society

I have also had a part-time job since the fall of my sophomore year. I work about 8 hours a week during the school year, and 25-30 hours a week over the summer.

Do I have a chance??

Please, please, please let me know if you think I have a chance. I was crushed after Duke and I’d like to know if I actually have a chance at these schools or if I’m just kidding myself.

Thank you!!

UNC- reach, unless your instate, then a high match.
Georgetown- reach
BC- Low Reach
Your ACT puts you in the bottom 50% which hurts your chances and all three are quite selective. None are impossible with all your other info, which is pretty solid!
I would recommend finding some solid matches and safeties if you haven’t already.

I’ve already been accepted to Auburn and Florida State and invited to both of their Honors Colleges. I just really want to go to a school with stronger academics that still maintains the fun aspect of sports and school pride.

Bump…

Any other opinions?

I am also looking at these three schools too! UNC has to take many in state students, which makes it harder for out of staters. To get in out of state your credentials are going to be a lot better than some of the students who got in in state. Im not an expert by any means, but I think your chance at BC is pretty decent. I hear of a small amount of people who get accepted to BC and not Georgetown. Good luck!

Thank you so much. Good luck to you as well, I hope everything works out for the both of us!!

From my school’s experience, BC tends to like higher test scores. UNC is very protectionistic, and Georgetown is just very selective

BC: Low Reach
UNC: Low Reach
Georgetown: Reach

MAYBE being in a Catholic School could give you a slight advantage to Gtown and BC since they’re both Jesuit schools.

I took the December ACT, so I’m hoping my composite score will go up one or two points.

UPDATE: December ACT scores came out today. My composite score remained the same, but some of my scores on individual sections improved which could help for any schools that super score the ACT

Composite: 30
English: 33
Math: 26
Reading 29
Science: 30

Which leaves my highest scores in each section as:

English: 34
Math: 28
Reading: 33
Science: 30

When I use those scores to come up with a new composite it comes out to a 31.25.

If BC, Georgetown, or UNC super score, would this help at all?

Bump…

Does anyone know if any of these schools super score? I’m mostly concerned about BC because that’s my first choice.

BC: High match
Georgetown: Reach
UNC: High match
