I am getting an additional letter of rec. from a very successful alumni

With these stats in mind and having shown high interest in the school via communication with admissions officers and campus visits do you think they will look past my act score if the most I get it up to is a 25
I’m really hoping to get into cas ed. Do you think its possible. Also do you think that that letter form an alumni will help.
Lastly do you think I’m better off applying ed 2 potentially increasing my act score more or just showing the max amount of interest and applying ed 1?

While they take a holistic approach, your act score is still very important and right now it is not very close to average (I believe last year the average for admitted students was 30 or 31). If you end up applying, make sure you also check off to be considered for CGS.

Personally, I think you would need at least a 30 ACT, 28/29 for the College of General Studies. Your other stats look great, but you really do need to bring up that ACT score. Best of luck!!!

No, you do not need a 30 or even a 28 for CGS. But try at least for a 26.

Really?? I meant a 30 for CAS but that is really interesting about CGS. Truth be told, I don’t know too much about it but I thought the average scores were higher.

Do you think I’m better off applying ed 2 or just applying ed in order to show the max amount of interest.
Also what is the average act of a cas student accepted ed 1

Wait until your scores from your next ACT come back. If you apply with the 24, you run the risk of rejection. ED2 probably makes more sense then.

CGS is essentially for students whose stats did not qualify them for admission to CAS or other BU schools.

I wont know my act score until after nov.1 can I still apply ed and then when I get my score if its bad choose to withdraw my application and apply ed 2 instead?

Also will having an alumni letter help in the admissions process

@TomSrOfBoston This would be a misstatement. The average SAT for students admitted to CGS in fall 2017 was 1313 and the average ACT, per University wide email from President Brown, was a 30.

@undergrad2018 Not according to the BU website:
http://www.bu.edu/cgs/files/about/FAQ/cgs%20FAQ.pdf page 4
Average ACT is 26, Average SAT (CR and M) 1192.

Your figures are for September entrants, half of the CGS class enters in January. Applicants with lower stats are admitted to the CGS January cohort. Their stats are not reported to USNews or anywhere. It is another way of gaming the rankings to appear to be more selective.

That document is 8 years old…and BU has a January cohort for CGS in order to remedy housing constraints as more upperclassman go abroad during the spring semester. Don’t speak to matters you’re not informed on.

Hello, I would use caution about BU’s EDII. I remember seeing the acceptance rate from last year, and there didn’t seem to be an advantage at all compared to the ED I and RD stats. Please check them out, as I do not have them handy, but I do remember going over this.

@undergrad2018

BU actually has a surplus of housing. And I am informed.

@TomSrOfBoston then why is BU currently housing students in a nearby hotel for overflow housing?

@undergrad2018 Because Myles is partially closed for renovation. they are leasing anew apt. hose as swing space.
