Chance me, bro

List:

Harvard
Yale
Cornell
Duke
Chapel Hill
NC State

Intended major: business

I'm not amazing student or anything, which is why I want an honest opinion:

2150 on SATs, and I took it once; 760 Math II, and probably a good score on chemistry, when I get it back on the 21st; 4.63 GPA, 3.95 unweighted; 3 APs by the time I graduate high school; good, creative essays; student body president; 5 on the AP Calculus exam; consul of the Junior Classical League at my school, National Honors Society, National Merit finalist, an award for my volunteer work at a local community theatre, a few other academic awards.

Not worried about NC State or UNC-Chapel Hill, but I want an opinion on the others.

do you live in NC?

Yes; Asheville, NC.

NC State’s a safety, we all know that lol. UNC is more of a high match, and really depends on what HS you go too. Also depends how many kids applied early from your school/area. Does your school send kids to lots of elite schools? What’s your rank?

Your SAT 1 scores a tad low for the Ivies, UW GPA is good, and weighted is pretty good. Your ECs are pretty lacking, honestly, for the RD round. Harvard and Yale are high reaches (though still a chance), Cornell is a mid reach, and Duke is low/mid reach. What HS do you go too, if you don’t mind me asking. I actually met some people from Asheville @ Boys’ State this year.

T C Roberson High; class rank is 38 out of 412. It’s a good high school. I think Chapel Hill is a pretty safe bet for me, because they’ve called me twice and said that I would get in if I applied. And I might just retake the SAT, too. I was hoping that being student body president would cover my extracurricular activities, but I guess not.

You’re top 10%, so that’s definitely a good thing. LOTS of those applicants are student body presidents, so it’s not a “unique” EC. Don’t let me discourage you from applying! Essays can get you in. You have the basic academic needs met, as long as your schedule has been one of the hardest in your class. Apply if you like, there’s no hardm in doing so. Just don’t accept to get into all of your reach schools. You do have a pretty good shot at Duke. They do give NC applicants a tiny boost in admissions.

Sounds like UNC is basically a safety. That’s awesome that they told you that lol! Good luck bro, hope you get into some of your dream schools!

Harvard: High Reach
Yale: High Reach
Cornell: Match
Duke: High Match
Chapel Hill: Math
NC State: Safety

No compelling reason for acceptance at Yale or Harvard. I wouldn’t count them as absurd reaches but I would probably avoid hoping for them.

Cornell: High Match/Low Reach
Duke: Low Reach

As a non-NC student, I will leave your opinion of your chances at NC State and UNC to you but I would agree they are both approximate safeties.
