I've been accepted 3/3 (SUNY stony brook, SUNY binghamton, northeastern) so far. This is really surprising since I thought my 3.5 UW would just annihilate my chances. Emory is one of my top choices and my hopelessness is slowly diminishing due to my acceptances. Could you guys chance me?

3.5 UW
2110 SAT
800 chem 770 math 2
international student from south korea

2 great letters
Essays were good
extracurriculars show passion for music
I spent 20+ hours a week at least for 4 years of high school
State ranked concert pianist

Decent profile I know, what are my chances?

I think Emory is actually more selective than those (despite being the least selective top 20) except Northeastern however, Chances are probably not great or even good for RD (because the SAT is near the median of admitted students which may increase some for this cycle and the GPA is well below it. The other schools may have liked your SAT score, but at Emory it’s kind of “normal”), but your SATII’s will help some. Got any good AP scores to show admissions? Maybe if you got into Northeastern, you may get into Emory, but I am not too sure…Looks like NE is kind of stats whoring. We naturally do it, but not as much because we don’t get as much applicants as NE (who has an early action round) and also have different goals filling the class. Admissions will be more random than normal. Unless you are a URM, a 3.5 and 2100 still doesn’t look great.

Thinking of Northwestern. Not Northeastern.

Only thing worth taking from that post is the last sentence.

@aluminum_boat: No, aluminum: Northeastern is just as selective as Emory, I looked it up. It’s probably why it has gone up in the rankings so much. The freshman profile is identical on both ends…It ranks like 50 because it doesn’t have that much money and doesn’t have the reputation of other places. Northwestern is far more selective than Emory. I would say that they are in if they got into NU.

Oh, thanks for that. I didn’t know. I still think 3.5 is not high enough, though.
If you weren’t international, I think it would be ED1 or ED2.

you’ve got a good shot. best of luck.
