What I like: you have several areas of focus! good… no random ECs you did just for your resume (well i hope not!) I’d advise you to chose one primary area and one secondary to highlight in your application. Then the adcoms will be like “Oh we love that girl, you know the violist who has placed internationally in DI.”

Also, try to bump up the test score, if possible.

Haha thanks yeah thats all stuff i am actually interested in and devote all my time to. and I am a guy just letting you know but thanks for the input! im working on the Act score

hmm, ACT is average (not very strong) but you seem to have a strong gpa and strong ec

go instrumentalists! (im a 13 yr violinist) i personally think you have a strong chance (but cant really say for sure) good luck on your app next year!

Well I haven’t even applied yet because I am only a junior, but yes I am planning on sending in a tape. Thanks and yeah I have heard a lot of good things about it. do you play viola in the orchestra?

Ah. Definitely send in a tape if you’re that good. I do play viola in the orchestra. Feel free to PM me with any music-related Brown questions - I’d be happy to answer.

Don’t bother sending a recording unless you are among the top stands at Conference All State. Ivy Leagues simply don’t care unless you’re exceptional.

The depth of your music and related ECs is very good. But, as I always harp on, what about activities that benefit others? Some volunteer work? This rounds out a sense the applicant is able to commit to more than just “stuff i am actually interested in.” Mentoring, community service, etc?
Some will say, oh, it doesn’t matter to Brown. It does.

And, yes, you can send a cd. You’ve played long enough that surely you can produce a good one.

I think that you have a great chance. Your ACT is fine, but it could be better. I don’t know much about IB, but if it is anything like AP then looks good. Defiantly are going to want to send in an audition tape if you are as good as you have portrayed yourself to be.

Your extracurriculars are great, your dedication to music is apparent. People here on CC may say your ACT score is too low but at Brown a score of 29 is the 25th percentile and a score of 34 is the 75th…your 32 should not be a problem! Brown is a reach for everyone but you certainly have a shot.

@Bruno14 - Thanks for all the input - i’ll let you know if i have any questions

@Entity11- I understand that being a top stand in Conference would be important, but I would disagree in saying that that is the only thing that could prove that I am exceptional. Wouldn’t I want to send in an Audition tape even if something happened and I didn’t make it into conference? (For example, if I screwed up in the conference audition??) Then the tape would be the only way to still prove that I have exceptional talent. (Not trying to sound Arrogant)

@lookingforward - Yes well I am involved in community service and some other things. (I didn’t put them because none of them are extremely significant and I didn’t want to just list things.) Regardless, I know that this is an aspect of my resume that i definitely have to work on. Thanks for the support though.

@Stuntmanv2 - Yeah I am really working on bumping up the ACT a few points. That was the first time I took it so im hoping it will increase. And yeah, the IB program at my school is a good one. Thanks for the advice

I’m a current student who sent in a tape, and I happen to know that it definitely positively affected my acceptance. I didn’t participate in school orchestra (didn’t really have one), and so definitely didn’t do any “All State” things. That’s not the only mark of being a good player. I’m actually far from an exceptional player (was principal in my small orchestra at home, but that’s it, and I’m middling for the Brown orchestra). What Brown wants to see is proof that you’ve put a lot of time and effort into this extracurricular, and that you’ll continue pursuing this interest into college.

Wow…you have a really really good chance…
The ACT is pretty high, could be higher, but it’ll work for brown, especially since your GPA looks really really good
on the whole, I would say that you should get in…and thanks for chancing me…appreciate it :)

hey thanks for chancing me first of all.
i think you have a Fair chance at getting in. you still have time, so if you study hard and boost that act score you’ll be a shoe-in. as others have said, focus on your talents; your music and also that soccer captain thing will look really good. make sure you continue to be well-rounded. good luck!

If you’re accepted as a violinist to NY All State, that should practically guarantee you into Brown with your current scores/GPA/EC. Just write a good essay.

You definitely are a well rounded student, honestly I think it will all come down to your essays and maybe an increased ACT by a point or two/increased SAT’s. Work hard on that essay and if it stands out you have a very good chance at getting in.
