Hey guys. I’ve been worried about college apps and all, so I just wanted to hear your input on my chances for some of these programs. Here are my stats:
HIGH SCHOOL + GPA:
- Current Junior at a rigorous and highly selective academy for medicine-related studies in Northern NJ.
- 4.8 weighted GPA; 4.14 unweighted GPA.
- Earning 28 credits through the Rutgers School of Health Related Professions.
RELEVANT COURSEWORK:
- Medical Terminology I & II H , Anatomy and Physiology I H , Clinical Research, Clinical Practicum, Dynamics of H.C. in Society I & II, Fundamentals of Health and Wellness, Scientific Principles of Nutrition H, Medical Math H
- All of my general courses (english, math, etc.) are all Honors. Our school only offers 1 AP class (physics), which I’m taking.
TEST SCORES:
- 1530 SAT (760 English, 770 Math) ; taking ACT in April.
- 760 Chemistry ; taking literature and Math II this August
SUMMER ACTIVITIES:
My freshman year I took a course to get ahead in French by a year. My sophomore year I just volunteered at the hospital.
This summer I have an internship at the NIDCR/NIH under the adult stem cell section. It’s pretty neat.
VOLUNTEER WORK:
- Created town-wide afterschool tutoring program for K-5 students. We have been running since September and meet twice a week. I would say we have around 15 tutors and 20 kids that show up consistently. I work real hard to coordinate these meetings. (around 70 hours by now)
- 10 week clinical rotation at Alzheimer’s facility. We conducted research about them too, and submitted a final project. It was really cool, tbh. (don’t know hours)
- Volunteer at doctors office (35 hours)
- Volunteer at Senior care facility (60 hours)
- Volunteer at regional hospital (80 hours)
- Volunteer in school tutoring program (10 hours)
AWARDS:
- Won 1st (2016) and 2nd place medals (2015; 2018) at Northern NJ Regional HOSA (Health Occupations Students of America) competition in Dental Terminology.
- Won 2nd (2016; 2018) and 3rd (2017) place medals at state HOSA competition in Dental Terminology.
- Qualified for and attended HOSA International Leadership Conferences in Nashville TN, Orlando FL, and Dallas TX (2018)
EXTRACURRICULARS + LEADERSHIP:
- Member of Congressman Rodney Frelinghuysen’s Youth Advisory Council.
- Editor-in-Chief of school newspaper: The Devil’s Advocate.
- Member of New Jersey Young Healthcare Volunteer Auxiliary (NJYHVA).
- Committee leader for Class of 2019 Student Council.
- Math and science tutor in school’s peer tutoring program
- Rec Basketball in 9th and 10th grade (WINTER)
- Member of HOSA, Key Club, Red Cross Club, Multicultural Club.
Am I a good candidate for these programs? Thanks guys.
